I cant figure this out, looked everywhere on google, probably just using the wrong search terms. Anyhow, on Force Unleashed 2, every time I use force powers, hit anything with the light sabers, or get hit with anything, my frame rate drops below 5 FPS. Same thing happens in Arkham City when ever I use a gadget, like a batarang, frame rate drops below 5 FPS. I have tried adjusting settings in both games, and nothing seems to help.

My specs are as follows:
i5-2500K - still stock clocks
ASUS 560 OCII
8GB of ram
display is 1440x900

I havent been having any issues running BF3, and it should take more to run than the other two games. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Try reducing anti-aliasing and making sure your video drivers are up-to-date. I've maxed everything in Arkham City with my 570+560 (or 9800GT, depending on what I'm testing) physx and still get a bit of lag on the benchmarks. And Arkham Asylum (at least) runs better with a second or third video card on physx.

In Arkham City I get the lag regardless of physx being on or off, DX9 or DX11 mode, AA off or on. I even dropped the detail level, didnt matter. As soon as I use any gadget my frame rate drops to 1FPS, same as in Force Unleashed 2. I am at a loss as to what is causing it.

not activating fraps to capture video by pressing a button for a gadget/whatever reason?

(if you have fraps installed)

Fraps on or off, does not matter. I have uninstalled the newest beta driver for the 560, and installed the newest whql driver. Still doesnt matter, still doing the same thing. Guess I will see how BF3 reacts right now. Maybe those two games are just broken.

edit: BF3 ran on all high, no problems. Never dropped below 45FPS.

Try defragmenting game cache files if they're on steam, or uninstalling both, defragging the entire drive and reinstalling. Also make sure a DVD spin-up isn't causing slowdown for whatever reason.

They are both on Steam. I will give the defrag thing a try when I get home tonight.

when on a regular desktop do you ever experience any TDR's? like when windows says the "driver recovered ..." etc. ?

I got those a few times a week or so ago, then my monitors dvi output died. I swapped to another monitor and have not seen that issue since.

Figured out the problem by accident. Apprently the lag is being caused by my wireless PS3 controller running through an emulator. I didn't think to look at it as the issue because running a wired PS3 controller through the emulator never caused a slow down.  Thanks to all for the help. Guess I will look at getting a controller that works in GFWL.

Just grab a wired Xbox 360 controller. It's a solid feel, won't disappoint and matches a ton of PC game settings by design, especially GFW/L ones.

I used to have that issue with splinter cell conviction. Everytime i wanted to use a scope the game woild freeze for like a minite. Fixed it by using a 360 controller...lol weird

FPS games with a controller? On a PC? What do you take me for?  Some kind of Mook?

Arkham City and Force Unleashed 2 are not FPS games, and are alot easier to control with a controller than a mouse and keyboard.
