Captain Hook stole the show. I guess there's a reason they called it Hook.

you haven't seen that yet? dude....

Don't expect too much of it though. It's one of those things where we look back on it with nostalgia-tinted glasses.
I disagree... There are TONS of movies I have seen again years later that sucked, and I realized they were just built up nostalgia in my head... Princess Bride I thought was even better when I saw it as an adult than I did when I was a kid.

On that subject, I am shocked this hasn't made the "Let's remake every movie that was good from the 80s" list already.

This is one of those movies that gets quoted ALL the time, but never gets old.
i watched princess bride about a month ago.  was still great

I won't deny PB is still good. But there are some people who are just overly nostalgic about it and overhype it (if that's possible to do to something that's already been released).

The film was initially a modest success,[8] grossing $30.8 million at the United States and Canada box office,[9] on a $16 million production budget.[10] It received highly favorable reviews from some critics, including Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel who gave the film a "two thumbs up" rating on their television program At the Movies.[11] Roger Ebert also wrote a very favorable print review.[12] Richard Corliss of Time felt the film was fun for the whole family,[13] and later, Time listed the film as one of the "Best of '87."[14]

Wiki on Goonies wrote:

Film critics were generally favorable toward The Goonies. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reports that 63% of critics have given the film a positive review, based on 41 reviews, with an average rating of 6/10 and the critical consensus: "An energetic, sometimes noisy mix of Speilbergian sentiment and funhouse tricks that will appeal to kids and nostalgic adults alike."[2] At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from film critics, it has a rating score of 60, indicating "mixed or average reviews".[3] Several reviewers noted that the film appeared to be enjoyable for children and teens, but not so much for adults.[4]
The Goonies grossed US$9 million in its opening weekend in the US, second on the charts behind Rambo: First Blood Part II.[5] It grossed over US$61 million that year, placing it among the top ten highest-grossing films of 1985 (in the US).[6]

Wiki on Independence Day wrote:

Independence Day was the highest-grossing film of 1996.[1] In the United States, Independence Day earned $104.3 million in its first full week,[52] including $96.1 million during its five-day holiday opening, and $50.2 million during its opening weekend.[53] All three figures broke records set by Jurassic Park three years earlier.[52] That film's sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, claimed all three records when it was released the following year. Independence Day stayed in the number one spot for three weeks, and would gross $306,169,268 in the domestic market[1] and $510,800,000 in foreign markets during its theatrical run.[1] The combined total of $816,969,268 once trailed only the worldwide earnings of Jurassic Park as the highest of all-time.[54] It has been surpassed by several 21st century films since, and currently holds the 30th highest worldwide gross for a movie all-time. Hoping to capitalize in the wake of the film's success, several studios released more large-scale disaster films,[55] and the already rising interest in science fiction-related media was further increased by the film's popularity.[40]

He never made it big in Hollywood. His role in that movie was just a small part. Sad that he passed, he left big shoes to fill.
