In Chile you need to pay an entrance fee with a US passport (and a few others including Canadian) but otherwise you don't need a special visa. I think it's the same for Uruguay (the only two Souf American countries my sis has been to, she has a US passport).

Go to Costa Rica or Argentina. My cousin took off and lived in both countries for a year (while collecting a NYC paycheck) and he loved both. He was paying $600 a month to rent out a five star quality villa on the Pacific (with maid service included) in CR while hooking up with Israeli tourists non-stop. He loved Argentina too, enough so that he brought home an Argentinian fiancee... I would do either but CR sounded like more of a party/paradise destination.

When I travel I tend to purposely avoid the resort style places. I'll stay in a nice hotel once a week or so just to remember what the first world is like but I like to get into the culture a bit.
Costa Rica isn't that cheap anymore jay. It's still relatively cheap but not like it was 5/10 years ago, from what I've heard. I'm saving Argentina for when I go to south america. The plan is to go to Peru, Argentina and brazil.
Is India worth going to for two weeks, or would I need to go there longer? How's Australia in feb? Last time I was there it was April I think.

Hurri a vinyl collection gets expensive. I only have like 200 records and that's a lot to me. Its fun record shopping though, especially flipping through the new batches at your local record store. Typing that makes me miss it
