I had an Alienware (Dell), god it was awful. Sold it, hoping to find something better.

Looked up the prices and configs for Dell's XPS line... nothing even comparable for the same price.

opt for a smaller, faster drive. 5400rpm makes all the extra memory and processor speed just lol.

If at all possible, get an SSD, even if it less than 200GB.

Actually, found this. Essentially it seems to be the same exact laptop, except it's prebuilt. It comes with exactly the same specs as above, except the 750GB 7200 RPM drive... about to jump the gun...
Comes with free 2 day shipping also.

imo (if you are sticking with HP) ...

big drawback here is the built in display is not hd (would add another 150)

Looks nice but I'm looking for more power - I am at my girlfriend's a lot and I was leaning more towards this for the i7 and the GT650m (it has 384 cores), and 2GB RAM.

point is that perceived power is useless with a crappy disk drive. Kinda like have super huge balls and a tiny penis.

How much processing power do you consume on what processor architecture now (rhetorical)

2 cents ...

Is a 7200 RPM drive not sufficient? The one I linked the most recently has one.

Hard drive can be easily replaced on laptops.  Don't used that as a factor on deciding what lappie to get.  Although a 650M is just mid-range.

Nothing wrong with HP's. About a half a dozen laptops from them and none failed. The one in the OP has a lame HD for all the speedy shit it boasts, though. The power it saves you is laughable compared to everything else that eats it.
