How old were your parents when they had ya?

Early 30's. Both financially independent and well into very well-paying careers. Could afford expensive private schools and decent upbringing without relying on grandparents. Cough cough.

Not sure I'd send my kids to private school even if I had the money to be honest. But then again I go to a university full of twatty Americans, Englishmen and Indians who quite often join because other rich kids and royals not good enough for Oxbridge go/have gone there. Woo Royals. Woo, polo team. Woo, it has castles (it doesn't).

So my image of private school twatishness (education: excellent, awareness of what's going on outside their little bubble: shocking) is probably distorted.

But surely you meet more interesting people at a state school. Ie, people whose parents aren't just like yours.

Maybe I've been brainwashed though - my parents sent me to state school in the US on principle (they could've afforded private). I had a good time.

point: being wealthy is by no means a prerequisite for raising a good child, nor is your income a reliable gauge of how decent your kid is going to be. As long as you have enough to feed it and dress it and time to give it attention, and you're not a moron, then I'm pretty sure you're k.

I've met excellent people raised by single mums in their 20s, and a shit load of absolute disasters with rich banker-parents. But hey, at least they can get that job at Daddy's firm and live comfortably and complacently until their inevitable death.
