If you say so. The coolest thing to me was watching the balloon expand as he got further up the pressure gradient.
highest jump, looks like he broke the speed of sound, will provide data for nasa et al, the sheer BALLS of what he did

rather have people watching this than keeping up with the kardashians/the only way is essex.

really?
It was a massive anti-climax. Thankfully I didn't watch from the first minute because same as with NASA events, these things take just too much time (and they often get postponed, I believe this one as well) and end up being not worth the wait.
This jump was no exception. I watched it for roughly 10min before he jumped and even that felt like wasted time and ended up making staring at a white dot on a grainy screen whilst listening to incomprehensible radio chatter for 30sec not worth the effort.

He broke a  world record, good for him, and were going to see a small spike in the sales of red bull merchandise. gg

I didn't watch it. So he didn't even have a helmet camera so you could be amazed at how quickly the world is coming towards you? You just watched from a shitty camera on the pod like thing as he turning into a dot?

That seems like poor planning...

It was a infrared camera, and for a minute straight you could see him just flailing about as he fell at 700mph.

he has cameras on his suit, they recorded it and show it later

rather than trying to show a live feed from a camera falling at super sonic speeds at sub zero temperatures

I don't know, with all of the money put into the event a transmitter on the suit didn't seem too much to ask. Also, "falling at super sonic speeds at sub zero temperatures" doesn't seem like a major problem. If they can get a man to survive the same conditions, they can get a transmitter to work.

What did you expect, him to flap his arms and fly? It's a free fall. And red bull has done this before, only showing a little footage during the event, then releasing all the good stuff later so you have to go back to watch it. It's still pretty damn cool.

Would have loved to have seen it but I really needed the sleep and by the looks of things it was at around 4am here when it happened.

I smell a subsequent jump to try and break the speed of sound.

If was going 50kmph faster he would've broken the sound barrier.

Stratosphere is around -3 degrees centigrade.
Speed of sound at that temperature is 1186 kmph

From the BBC site:
"Austrian Felix Baumgartner has become the first skydiver to break the speed of sound, reaching a top speed of 833.9mph (1,342km/h), officials say."

Is that official? I got my figures from the official Red Bull Stratos page.

That is what they are reporting on the BBC news site.

Also says this: "None of the new marks set by Baumgartner can be classed as "official" until endorsed by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI)."
