Do you rememer that card game Magic the Gathering? They were cards and people in schools would play them it looked really stupid and boring and i didnt see any normal people playing them (all fat / nerds)

Im wondering do you remember those card games and do people these days still play them? I remember them all the way back in Grade 7 and it seems they are still making them so people still must play them.

I saw a bunch people playing it at my school along time ago it looked so stupid he kinda explained to me how to play and i tried but it was just to boring and stupid.

But theres one thing i like / liked about these cards  that drew me to them and made me purchase a few packs when i was younger the art on the cards is amazing and very well done so many cards i just liked looking at the art on the card.

So im just wondering if the nerds in you're school played this crap and if you're like me hated the game but liked the art on the cards.

Yes, I've played M:TG, but stopped because of the marketing route they took a while ago.  My friend and I actually had a website and a monthly newsletter for deck building that had quite a following for a while back in 2001-2002.

So, you try something once, and you instantly hate it and must denounce all of those who've played it, and then make utterly stupid generalizations of everyone who has played it?  That's ridiculous. Grow up, ffs.

Yes, I played it aswell in 8th grade, 5 years ago. And the best part of the game was all the nice pictures. I always played as green (The Forest). Hmm... Im thinking of digging up my cards again and blow the dust from them.

played it too and I'm neither fat nor boring.... gosh it was fun back a bunch of years ago! not everyone can be as cool as you are - you of course started playing cool FPS games from the very start and never bothered with uncool stuff like us nerds

I still play M:TG (i'm 21), but i dont buy new cards anymore, cause i dont like the new stuff they release. I mostly have old stuff, like mirage and ice age cards (not that i think everyone will get that ), so i guess i could get a nice price for them on ebay.. (considdering the amount of old cards i have, im guessing a VERY nice price)

I never managed to get past top-trumps.

And who the fuck are you to call all of it's players nerds? Frequenting a computer-game message board makes you a nerd by default... you hypocrite.

Yep, the only thing I really like about the cards was the art as well. That is what grabbed my attention about these cards.

Years ago, my one buddy was like "you should play magic some time."  I told him, "No, I have no clue how to play it and have no desire to learn."  Eventually he convinced me to try it.  I played it once and said, "This is fuckin lame.  People pay money for these little pieces of paper?"  I never played it again.

Aren't some of the cards worth alot of money? The guy that mentioned Ice Age i remember them and seeing them at the store looked really nice i didnt buy any though.

I still remember 2 cards i had in the set one of them was Blood Lust a girl's face leaning against a puffy bloody wall and some wierd looking monster with 3 heads.

The art on these cards were exellent just the game wasnt anything worth playing.

That would be nice if they made a game like an action rpg based on magic the gathering with all their creatures and magic.

I remember that game. I tried to play once because I had a friend that played. And I was bored out of my mind, I had this deck of like 200 cards I was suppose to use and I don't know what it was but before I could even play a card I had to get two cards that had the same number of little trees in the upper right hand corner, and I think I went through the entire deck before I actualy got matching tree symbols, then I died, or at least thats what they told me.

god you are a generalizing dickhead

Im not a nerd or a fat person

i started MTG about a week ago and it is very fun, in fact i went to a tournament today and one yesterday.  i had a great time even though in both i placed dead last.  It is not about nerdism it is whether it is fun or not , and you should fully try the game and give it a good chance before dismissing it and being a douche bag

It seems like Vampire was implying that the kids at HIS SCHOOL were fat and nerdy, I don't think he was saying everyone was fat and/or nerdy.

And on top of that, your actually getting offended by someone on the internet, whom you don't even know.  Just calm the stink finger down.

i used to play to, when i was about 9 i think. i didnt get how to play at all but liked the look of all the cards. i had a friend who was 12 years old and he always won. i think he was giving me bs rules, trying to trick me all the time. neither of us was fat, we played football most of the time back then. so its not all the nerds and fat kids. well, im kind of a nerd, get good grades but dont study much. i stopped playing cause i moved and couldnt find anyone else who played.

I think the ones getting upset over the internet are infact overweight and nerdy but i did mean my school i didnt see any one interested in the game playing it that wasnt normal as in a nerd the only thing i liked about the cards was the art it really is amazing if they made Magic the gathering comic books or something then that would be nice.

Nah its not my thing its just too boring and seems confusing so many things to learn i just wanna look at the pictures.

I played the game for it's strategy and complexity.  Stopped playing after I left high school, but I still have my cards.

I used to play alot up until 2000. Haven't touched it since. I've still got a ton of cards, some pretty expensive ones (from the very first series), but I haven't brought myself to selling them yet. My decks were built using the old rules, so they're probably not legal anymore (2 Revised Royal Assassins and 4 Sorceress Queens and 4 Sengir Vampires). A popular combo of mine was to turn something to 0/2 with the queens and feed them to the vampires. Can't believe i still remember that. It also has a revised Sol Ring and an antiquities Feldon's Cane. It basically allowed me to haphazardly destroy my opponent, then bring everything back and do it again. That deck was my power deck, and I had a really good red/green deck with quite a few rare cards that unfortunately got stolen (had two dual lands, the Taiga, each worth $25 apiece, not to mention a revised edition shivan dragon, also worth $20).
