It is a Commander's job to spot enemies. Spotting unhides enemies on all the team minimaps
There is a certain limit to this where it *quickly* becomes counter-productive.

When the commander is yammering in my ear non-stop:

I cant hear my squad mates talk.
I have trouble hearing the people *shooting* at me.
I can not hear the tank that is about to come around the corner.
I have trouble hearing incoming enemy artillery in time to take cover.

Commander Spotting is of very little use when used on infantry.
Odds are if that person is relevant to me, he is already in my line of sight. Even at max soom, the minimap isnt accurate enough for anything other than general position. It doesnt tell me if the guy is just around the corner, or on the roof above the alley, or prone backed into the corner at the end.

If I am approaching an objective, im going to take the time to lob nades in the obvious places, and use my zoom to check out the rooflines.

If he is concerned about someone sneaking up on me, he can bloody well use his mic and tell me, or whoever else is leading the squad.

If he is going to spot anything, spot the guy ninja-capping the flag 400 feet away. Or the tank thats hauling arse towards me but is still too far away to hear. Or th jet that is vectoring in to bomb me. That matters. Spotting the guy whose head is already in my sights is just him jogging my elbow. Spotting him 5 times in under a minute is just being an asshat.
You hit the nail right on the head. It dont do any good to spot people like that, if you have a big lob use the UAV, if a squad needs assistance maybe spot a few or use voip. No need to go on and on about it. its bullshit and very annoying.

Some I'm trying to be facetious and sarcastic, but also trying to not bring up anything that doesn't have something groovy or of note inside it.

1) If the Commander spots enemy armor, what should your team's Armor do? Who else should evaluate and react after enemy Armor is spotted?

2) When a Commander spots enemy air, is their anyone that can take out the air?

3) When a Commander spots anything that can *bleep* your team, do you, as a team member, need to know about it?

4) Is it fair to demand that the Commander not use supply crates to repair Commander vitals? Should
the Commander instead leave command screen and go do grunt work when the whole round is at stake eve
ry 5 seconds? (i)

5) Why can't there just be a volume slider for Commander voice so we can get rid of the Commander dilemma over annoying the people that are supposed to be playing together?

6) Is it difficult to note that the bright yellow/orange occasional critical 4 and 5-word sentences from a good Commander dumped in Team channel can change your world for the better in the round?

7) The little UAV on the minimap, over that uncontested or unguarded CP, means what? We all watch ou
r minimap, right? (ii)

8) I am allergic to Artillery strikes. Those things are bad for your brain. Like jet bombers.

9) How can Commanders do their job and be respected if the game inserts them as an annoyance?

(i) Why not just build a bunker at home for Commanders and let them persist where they deserve and belong? And why not put up some nastier defenses at home bases, so that there is a viable alternative of a soldier or 2 guarding Home, where all the vital equipment is?

(ii) I wish the *bleeping* minimap would stay zoomed out full -- where 90% of the time I want it -- unless I interrupt IT to do otherwise.

We'll never see the end of threads about commanders that spam spotting information. Personally I love it. I would much rather have a commander spotting stuff constantly than one who sits on his ass and uses the UAV once in a while.

To everyone who responded and said spamming constantly is not beneficial to the team, remember that just because its not relevant to YOU doesnt mean it wont help someone else on your team. You can only see spotted enemies within a certain distance of yourself, so all that spotting the commander does might be out of your effective minimap distance, but someone else on your team might appreciate it.

And to the OP and anyone who agrees with his actions, I want you to grab the nearest sharp object and jab it into your ear sockets. Now you dont have to listen to the commander anymore, and the rest of us can still have our information. Or you can just turn your sound down like a normal human being.

Sometimes new players who go commander think that spotting improves their score directly....it doesn't.
Once you explain that to them, they usually calm down on the spotting a bit.

I have come across one guy tho, 'spliffted05' (different tag name every time I see him) who constantly spams - but not about enemies.
Have you ever had 'enemy boat spotted' (on karkand) 60 times a minute for most of the round? Or when a mutiny comes up he spams 'no, sir' constantly? I've only ever seen commander mutiny votes work on this guy - twice! Unanimously!

It IS very annoying when a commander spots everything that glows red. The UAV is for spotting large herds of people, not right-click: spotted. Don't get me wrong, soptting has is use. (EX: There are two lone enemies trying to cap a far-away flag that your armor is near. Spot them, (and if you can set a waypoint) and ask him to kill them.)

Should you have Tked him? Probably not. You could have taken his commander spot pre-game. You could've switch teams. You could've switch servers.

Maybe he deserved it once.

Yeah, once.

You sure spew a lot of anger at people when almost everyone who has posted has been of the impression that you are in fact the person in the wrong.  Acting so immature with your insults will only continue to reinforce the idea that you are in fact a "younger player".

And I agree with most, you teamkilling your commander and not allowing him to go about attempting to help the team, is wrong....your stat padding with reviving the commander.... oh well, not gonna touch that one.

So, instead of letting the commander do his job of spotting enemies, you screw your team over be teamkilling?
This self styled 'great commander' was NOT doing his job. His has no friggin clue what his job entails. So he spams the enemy spotted command. Thus ruining the game for everyone on his team.

If you think this self-style 'great commander' is actually a great commander..... why am i arguing with a stats padder?

I do a moderate amount of spotting. Usually lone infantry and definetly snipers. If I see an enemy soldier trying to hide from a fire fight then I make sure his goose is cooked.

eh... still think it was wrong, letse it's you against 31 other people (if you're playing a full 64) I guess you would be King of that server, so yeah you had a right to TK him and it be silenced for 15-20 seconds while the rest of your 'TEAM' got screwed. He was doing his job but overwhelmingly he doesn't need to 'Spot' enemies when friendlies aren't anywhere in the vicinity, a nice (if SL) Mic saying 'Hey wait until we are there' would've done nicely. No matter how you put it, whether your sensitive ears, or can't hear, the commander is doing his job, it's amazing how one minute someone is complaining that the commander isn't doing anything and the next they are saying he is doing his job but overzealously. Make up your minds.

I haven't had a complaint so far being commander, except on Wake when the commander can't do shit until someone at least TRIES to get to the island. I can spot corners but that's it unless you tell the commander otherwise, I tell them the North Village is ALWAYS open and they insist on the corners. At that point I'm drinking or resigning or both.
