This doesn't make any sense, why would the readme say they don't support the Nvidia 6600gt when I used it to play bf2 before i formatted my computer, now I can't do squat.  Tried contacting EA tech. support (no help of course) just gave me a bunch of links.  All my drivers are up to date, tried reinstalling the game and drivers and so on.  I still get a blank grey screen when it comes to the login screen.  Anyone can helP!?!

The readme file shows a list of video cards it supports.  I just ignored it back then because it didin't list my 6600gt but the game still worked really well.  Now I get nothing. NOTHING.  I miss BF2

Anyone have a sound solution?

Well, my buddy has that same card and he's running great.
You can't expect a serious answer if you don't include your system specs.
ie... if you have a pentium2 333mhz, no vid card will help you.
come on man if you want help... help us help you.

I guess i just tried out of desperation, i uninstalled and reinstalled BF2 for the umpteenth time.  This time closing virus scan for whatever reason.  A glimmer of hope I guess.

......It didn't work.

edit: just tried a few things plus installed Far Cry to see if it was the game or my settings.  far cry didn't work either so it's my settings just not sure where i went wrong.

What is really funny is that I upgraded my mainboard to a ASRock 939 Dual-SATA 2. I have a Geforce 6800 LE AGP, Windows XP SP2, AMD Athlon 3000+ and 1 GB RAM. In the process of upgrading I also put on new video driver, Detonator 81.xx (forgot the correct number).
Before the upgrade (only changed the board and video driver) I was able to play BF2 without any problem. After that, I got that grey screen. I installed BF2 numerous times, tried to change this and that, but the grey screen instead of login screen was persistent. Now, a friend of mine gave me the advice to downgrade my video driver. I used Driver Cleaner to delete Detonator (I am not sure if the Nvidea driver is still called detonator) and installed my old version of it, 77.77.
This removed the grey screen issue, but I am far from being perfectly happy, because now Battlefield 2 won't display the letters correctly. Instead of "Login" I see five rectangles roughly the size of the characters. The Background movie and the popup boxes are displayed correctly, no matter here.
I think this is some kind of transparency issue, because the rectangles have a different colour than the background and regardless of its colour they are a yellowish grey.
Anyone got a solution for this problem?

Fear not, friend duked! For I came to help you out of you trouble!

So, I did research with google, and found a solution that works. Since we use the same board and share the same trouble, it was quite clear the problems arose from the board. I contacted the support guys from EA, and I found them completely incompetent. Like I said, I downgraded my Nvidea driver to 77.77, resulting in the characters not displayed, which was some kind of advance, because with the most recent version 81.89 I did only see a grey screen. What did they tell me? "Upgrade your video driver" and they also gave me the officiell download site. Thanks a lot, wise guys from EA! Obviuosly, they did not read my letter I wrote them but only the specs text file I sent them (from DXDIAG).

So, what can be done with this grey screen? The trouble was in the Uli drivers, at least for me. I downloaded the Uli integrated 2.13 driver set (a all-in-one-file set for all Uli chipsets, I think) and ran it. Be sure to activate the point "Uli AGP to PCIe" (or something similar) in the process (you will be given some checkboxes). Reinstall your video driver afterwards, and voila! BF2 will run again, I hope. It did so with me!
