I think I have an idea, but I'd like to hear what other think.  I'm guessing it is because:

1.  Maybe the person just prefers infantry and ground pounding.
2.  No jets flying around to easily take out armor.
3.  Lots of cover and concealment near and around flags make these maps fun for footsoldiers.
4.  There always seem to be multiple hot spots during a round, and none of them are that far away - even on foot (unlike Fu-She, Dragon Valley, Daqing, etc.)
5.  They just seem more intense!!

Lav25, take a big distance, start blasting at the alley, make sure your m1a1 buddy is an engineer, and you also, instant repair. Any tank comming close (mostly lone wolves) will get blasted by a shot of 120mm smoothbore followed by a missile.

Both maps are hard infantrymaps with nice and fast action...
the only problem, i think, is that these maps are unfair... only one team has fixed spawnpoints.

I think the most popular map would be a infantry-only-map (no tanks, no choppers, no planes) with a lot of buildings and complexes, where both teams have fixed spawnpoints. Thats my definition of a perfectly balanced map.

i'd like karkand more if there was no armor.  low amount of vehicles tend to attract vultures...spawn camping and those who tk for the spawn camping point machines.

Yes, if you are playing against a bunch of disorganized douchebags that are just looking to pick up easy medic points and easy support points.

I have to admit that I love spawning at the hotel as medic or support.  But, if some APC or tank is "raping" the spawn points, I will ask that the squad I am in spawn at the Square with 2 or 3 AT guys and 1 support dude with 1 medic.  Then, using all of the neat alleys to hide in, we would proceed to put 2 or 3 AT rockets up the offending piece of armor's butt.

Of course, this implies you can actually get a bunch of asshats to function as a team.  It usually only works if I'm playing with my clanmates and we are on vent together.

Karkand is never same, always intense, true about the short distances to hot spots, i hate those large maps where if you miss  the "bus" you gotta spend whole round on foot, lol
Also i like the fact that none of the kits have big advantage on this map which does require some skill to come ahead of others....
...The only thing that sucks about this map is that it's the biggest WHORE magnet.....

Where ever you are you always have action.... and take those point and you can apply them to SF maps as well... so sad EA can't allow all the maps in the same rotation. Imagine that, Karkan, Sharqui, Ghost Town, Mass Destruction on the same rotation

Also you can always use different strategy on those maps... as for the other maps, you almost always end up nplaying the same way over and over again.

Sharqi is my favourite map tbh. The fighint that alternates constantly between the 3 front outposts- city entrance, surveilance point and alleyway is excellent and always intense. Its about the only map i enjoy playing on as well when its quiet.

thats not the lame way I play. I love the challenge to fight like a man not sitting in an armor. and then its no low effort. and what if you dont get a tank?

I wish these maps wouldnt have any tank / apc. would be more fun because more skill would be needed.

I think you can lone-wolf it pretty well on Karkand.

Personally, I think that Mashtuur and Sharqi are more well-rounded maps because it probably punishes lone-wolves more than Karkand.  All three definitely benefit from a good commander, teamwork, and good communication, but from my experiences, Mashtuur and Sharqi are much harder for a lone wolf to play on because there aren't those obvious choke points.  What are the Mashtuur and Sharqi equivalents of the Hotel and Teh Train Wreck on Karkand?

Hey, what are the SF maps that most closely resemble the good points of maps like Sharqi, Karkand, and Mashtuur?

Because people love inf. maps Just real shooting no tanks (we have then but are a easy target) no plains .... and we have heli's but the AA is much stronger so we hunt then down... so Karkand and Sherq are pure Inf. maps which i love too

I would say that a large choke point on Mashtuur would be the Mosque & the Backyard.  Those two are getting traded back and forth by teams frequently.  Problem with Mashtuur is that good clans still can blackhawk whore it.  It's still difficult to take down a blackhawk that has three engineers cranking away on it, without the use of AA.

As for Sharqi...The TV station, when it falls early in a round it can get nasty heated as the US tries to take it back 'at any cost'.  Nobody wants the MEC to have both the helo's.  Well...except the MEC.  Which if they are smart, do everything they can to try to hold the TV Station for just that advantage.

I am a ground pounder by nature. I have nothing against vehicles as you will occasionally see me in one, but only if there is no one better to use these. I was stoked when SF came out because of its infantry based maps. I though i'd never play vanilla BF2 anymore. I was wrong.

It turned out that I actually missed Karkand and Sharqi because of that extra danger element with Armour being there. I find this forces teamwork upon the players to take these vehicles out. SF seems to be too lonewolf-ish so I will only play with my buddies when they are online together.

When you think about it, the Mosque is really a waste of time to expend lots of resources taking and/or holding.  Nothing except Vods or Hummers spawn there.  Backyard and Powerstation are obviously key because the tanks spawn there.  Also, the places where the Helo spawns are important if a squad wants to fly around - especially the one in the blackhawk.  Even The Hill is important because lots of the commander's assets are nearby, and the same can be said of The Hotel Mashtuur (as opposed to the Karkand Hilton).  lol
