Friend cant play BF2...

Well he just bought the game and he just installed it today, and was able to play Single Player just fine. Then he wanted to play Multiplayer so he downloaded the patches. While I just recently formatted, I had to reinstall as well. So I did, and I downloaded and installed the exact same patches as he did.

First we downloaded the 'bf2_patch_1.2.exe' patch and installed it, then I went to install the next one 'bf2_incremental_patch_1.12_-_1.2.exe' and it installed fine. He tried to install it and said it was already installed...

Then I hosted a server, and he tried to join. However, he crashed to desktop right after the progress bar disappeared on the loading screen.. I mean whats going on?!

just b/c you crash doesn't mean it doesn't work. I've crashed a couple times but i've came back. First of all, you're supposed to have 1.12 in order to use the incremental 1.12-1.2

wait wait.. you're trying to install both 1.2 patches onto one computer? That's what i'm getting from reading that.

If so... that's probably the problem. Since you both seem to have clean installs, just use the full patch (the big one, NOT the incremental unless you're updating from 1.12)

Ok this shit is really confusing.. which are we supposed to download first now..

This is the full patch, bf2_patch_1.2.exe I just realized that.. So I dont need the incremental..

Nope I looked into it a bit.. and I cant join any pubs either.. I get booted 2 secs after joining and spawning.. then I get a "Connection to server lost" error, and he just crashes...'

Is there a FULL patch or what?

yeah i agree with what DaveOnrefni said dont increment if u starting clean use the full patch its like 384 mb.

Are problems with the new patch common?

After using the incremental patch, single player works fine, with the new jumping tweaks and everything. Trying to join a server causes an immediate crash to desktop without even getting to a loading screen.

so do i have to do a clean install and full 1.2 patch to get this working?

install bf2---install FULL 1.2 patch---install bf2:sf---install full 1.2 patch again. i know it sounds weird to have to install the full patch twice, but that's what i had to do, and was directed to do by EA. if it doesn't work...do it again. i had to install the 1.2 patch 3 times to finally get it to work. i was crashing to desktop while the game was trying to load. this process fixed the problem for me...eventually.

if this doesn't work there are options. this forums http://www.eaplay.com/australia/communi … ead/26341/ has a nice troubleshooting guide.

edit [make sure that your video card drivers are up to date. that cause alot of the crash issues. if they are refer to the site above.

Ok I am having the problem now for some reason...

Then I try to join a game, and get booted while spawned after 2 to 5secs...

So here goes, i was having problems with bf2 right? So i unistalled it.

so to reinstall it, i figure yeah, there is a 1.2 patch that does it all right, wrong.

When i installed bf2, then patch 1.2 it wouldn't do it.
so installed bf2 again, installed special forces, (this patches to 1.1) then installed the incremental 1.12, then installed the incremental 1.2, it worked.

I would try installing in that order, if you don't have special forces, then just install the 1.12 ang go from there. After that make sure punkbuster is updated. If you can play in single player and not in multi, it is because your pb is not on, or updated.
