I seriously just want to kill my PC sometimes.. I was seriously owning as was commander so I was going to get double score when the match was like 8 tickets away from winning the match... then the FREAKING game just INSTANTLY EXITS to the desktop with NO ERROR or REASON!!  W...T...F!!!  It's done this SEVERAL times before and I am about fed up with it!  This is the ONLY game that does this and has ever done it!

Another prob:  When I first start playing this game, it plays beutifully... for about 20 mins.  Then my framerate consistantly goes down the longer I play until it's almost unplayable.  I'm on a 256 MB PCI-E ATI X850 XT PE, AMD 64 4000+ CPU, and 4x 512 MB (2 GB) Corsair RAM.  It's not a cooling issue, driver issue, or even a PC issue.. it's this DAMN game... it's got some bad memory leaks or something!  I just dont get it...

THEN there's the 1.2 patch that TOTALLY screws up this game more!  For some reason, I CAN NOT map my crouch button to any other button besides CTRL!  I wont even have CTRL assigned to it and it still does it.  NO other button will crouch.  I crouch constantly when firing if I'm in weeds that I dont want to go prone in, so this severely annoys me!

Thanks for listening!!  lol

The game has dumped on me too, for one reason or another.  I reinstalled it two days ago and has been seriously problematic ever since.  Similar pc stats to yours.
The crouch issue your having is wierd.....

guys, I had the same problem, look at the 'thanks EA' topic in this section. I found that if I first installed the incremental patch I then had to install the full one over it, It now works fine

I had it installed with the incremental the first time, and the full this second (problematic) time.
Gives me time to catch up on my movies waiting for 1.21.  Oh crap, I have a job!!!!

The game is not "killing" my PC because it's not even a hardware related problem.  I found the solution... this crappy piece of software that came with my mobo that likes to overclock my CPU without me even setting it to.  It wasn't a major OC or anything, it just had me running at 2470 MHZ instead of 2400 MHZ.. I seriously doubt that small of an OC was enough to cause any damage.  I guess that's just enough to make it a tad unstable in that game because all my others played fine (HL2, Far Cry, FEAR, etc.).  I took that crap OC app. off and it's perfect now.  Doesn't even slow the framerate down after time like I mentioned before.  I played for a few hours tonight with no crashing/bugging out.

I still cant seem to get that damn crouch button mapped to any other key though.. weird as crap.  I got another partition on another HD in my PC with XP X64 edition and I'm gonna try bf2 on that since it's been running all my other 32-bit apps pretty well too.  I'll let ya know how it turns out if ya want...

I wouldn't use software to overclock anyway.  My system is overclocked from 2.2GHz to 2.56GHz and I have no problems with the game, but I also manually overclock all my settings in the BIOS.  I spent quite a good deal of time tweaking the BIOS settings to get this setup fast and stable.  Software overclocks just don't give you that granular tuning that is sometimes necessary to make things work right, especially when the system tries to do it on its own.

That's half the fun in having a high-end system.  I overclock my CPU and video card.  Oh, and air cooling is for wussies, I use H2o.

Count yourselves lucky, the only reason I'm registering is because I used to have a problem where I couldn't choose left shift for crouch as it kept telling me that a duplicate key was found in other controls.  I'm not sure if this is the same problem but I'll explain anyway.

Go to My Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles

Now pick the folder corresponding to your profile  E.G. 0001 is probably the first account, 0002 is the second one. [If you're not sure, just do this for all of them]

Open the controls.con file using notepad or wordpad so you have a text file infront of you.

Now all you have to do is press ctrl+f so the find box appears, type in leftshift and then press find.  Delete all lines containing the word leftshift and save the file.

Run BF2, and when you go to your controls, you should now be able to pick left shift as crouch.

If this isn't the problem you're having, you could try deleting all of the control.con files, the one from the default folder and the one from any other profile.  This means re-mapping all of your keys so I wouldn't really recommend it, but you should be able to choose any buttons you want.

Hope it works
