I don't know what happened tonight.  I will be the first to admit that I am not the greatest pilot, But how can you mess up being on a planes tail, waiting until his flares are gone, getting lock, and pumping 5 missiles at him?  I managed to blow it.  Not once, but three times.  All against the F-15, always against the same pilot.

I would pound him with missiles, but they would bounce off.  I even killed his gunner once, without killing him or his plane with the missiles.  Once I even killed the F-18 with a missile that bounced off his F-15! 

Does anyone know what is going on?

The pilot was NeptuneDragon, and his pilot stats are no great shakes.  His armor stats kick butt, but I don't suspect any kind of cheating.  Someone on the other team was also complaining of bouncing missiles.

Oh, this was on Clean Sweep.  So, any ideas?

The missiles are buggy to all hell. Sometimes they will seek their target regardless of flares and blow them up without fail, other times they'll make 160 degree turns and hit the ground. Theres no way to tell when they'll work and when they'll go completely insane...

Yesterday I watched 3 missiles impact an su-34 and do no damage. And I'm not talking about near miss, I'm talking about watching them hit the hull and explode.

Yeah, the TV missiles on the choppers are off as well.  They'll pass right through some targets, and other times hit.  I'm not talking about pass through as in just barely miss, I'm talking about how they'll physically go through the players sitting in the cockpit of an opposing chopper, and come out the other side.

lmfao, i once saw my missles from a J-10 on wake island.. they were heading straight for an enemy AH-Z and it was litterally 2 feet from the chopper and....

It turns at a 90 degree angle and kills my buddy who was flying next to me gunning the hell out of the chopper... go figure, you shoot enemy and get a TK, seems the AA missiles havnt changed for me from the 1.12 patch to the 1.2 patch... =/

The missles are much better at TKing than they were before. Its an unwritten rule to not fire missles on Wake becuase you are sure to hit a friendly with them. I dont know whats up with them. I killed by wingman becuase I was shooting a F-15 who was on his six with missles. I fired off one missle. Went under the F-15 passed by him it climbed to follow the Su-30 and bam hit him and I got TK x2.

Maybe they will get it right some day.

i used  a TV guided...i shot at a tank straight ...but he went through the tank and exploded behind him WTF!

The other day I unloaded a few missiles on a jet i was trailing..one more missile would have killed him, but instead 2 of them just zoom off into nowhere and the other, now this is the truth: Starts spinning around the jet constantly, the whole time I trail it until i get blown up by ground AA

i had similar story with those misiles:
I get up close to the back of a j-10 with my f-35 make him ring wait for him to realease flares relock launch misiles they go up to the engine but the enemy j-10 but sudenly one of them turn arround and hit me and all the other 5 just bouced of the j-10 and went into nowhere even if i had a total lock and i was upclose....sometimes you chase someonte shoot a couple misiles pint blank and they will go all the way arround your target to hit a friendly 300m from there....
Or your just flying with nobody behind you at 600m up in the air and sudenly 6 misile come out of nowhere and destroy you without even giving you a quarder second beeep to notice....

A-A only seems to be good when it's working against me. I've unloaded half a dozen clear shots at choppers before and not one hit.

I've seen a missile launched at a chopper with full lock zigzag around it at the last second and hit an enemy jet flying past behind it.  Chopper never released flares either.

pilot wasn't too chuffed as he didn't get any lock tone warning and started screaming hack hethen started a kick vote

Three experiences with those amazing missles:

Bocage 2005, enemy Mig at my 6.  I look behind me and pull up as I watch the missle come ever closer.  At the last second, it does a 180 and slams into the Mig, giving him a suicide. WTF?! (Although I'm not complaining, that was funny as hell)

Gulf of Oman, two of us in F-35Bs chasing the Su-34 for an easy kill.  My wingman behind me, I assume it's safe to fire missles.  The Su-34 is damaged, but I release two just in case.  Both fly straight at him, the first lands and I get a kill, the second turns right around and hits my wingman BEHIND ME for a teamkill.  (I shouldn't even have to mention I was punished for this.)

Same game in Gulf of Oman, the same pilot seems to want revenge.  Hops in the Su-34, I'm on his tail as he takes off.  I release a missle and start gunning him down.  It veers off at the last second harmlessly.  Unfortunately I'm going too fast for the accelerating bomber and turn around so I don't end up in front of him.  As I hunt him down again, I hear my alarm going off, but no enemy jets in sight.  A moment before I check my 6, I see the bomber in front of me releasing a missle.  Looking behind me to see which way he turns, I watch the missle fly past me, take a 180, and do an interesting zig-zag pattern before hitting my jet and destroying it (previously undamaged jet, mind you).

So that's my two cents.  Missles taking 180's, sometimes requiring 3 to finish the job, sometimes 1.  BF1942 had the right idea with the P-51's, guns only.  I realize this is modern, with guided missles and all, but why have missles that don't work, and guns that do shit for damage?  I've used all 600 rounds on a guy, and he never died ( but I'll save that rant for another thread).  And don't tell me I suck with planes, I was THE ace in 1942.
