Would appreciate anyones help in this matter or like to hear from anyone with the same problem.
First let me say that Battlefield ran great on my computer before the 1.2 patch was installed. Over the past few days though I am unable to stay in game for any lengthy period of time. Sometimes I play for 30 mins maybe an hour but for the most part I get dropped to my desktop after a few minutes of play. I have rebooted my comp and then tried playing but the same thing, i'll be playing and all of a sudden the game crashes with no message and then theres my desktop. I reinstalled the game that didn't work either. I have a feeling im stuck in limbo and having to wait for the new patch to come before I can continue to play. Thanks for your time everyone.

Happens to me all the time too. I think it's due to HDD space. I'm running BF2 on a 37GB Raptor that is almost completely full and I think I've read that you need free HDD space to run BF2 well. What's your situation with HDD? I'm building a new gaming rig with a 250GB sata2 HDD. Hopefully won't have any trouble then.

Try closing some of your background tasks.  Also make sure its not triggered by a sound because bf2 used to crash all the time when I heard a certain explosion sound (I switched sound cards and no longer had this problem...went from an onboard to a SB live and it fixed it).  I found that I had more luck with the background tasks tho.  I find it hilarious that this is something that occurs fairly often and EA/Dice makes no mention of it in any of their patches.

I had the same thing happen quite often as well, I talked to EA about it and what it finally boiled down to is a COMPLETE uninstall.  Thats including the registry entries,  And reinstall everything using the latest full patch.  It worked for me, twice.  Everything screwed up a second time installing SF after the 1.2 patch.  Had to reinstall everything again.  All is working OK now, *fingers crossed*

Cheers

I've had it happen during a map change.  Rebooted, went back to same server and played just fine.

BF2 is especially sensitive to stability (if any of you overclock you'll know what i mean). so if you overclock lower your oc, if you don't overclock you could try a temperature monitoring program (intel users should also use throttle-watch http://www.techspot.com/download400.html) and if your CPU temp is above about 50*C (or around 120*F for you yanks) you may want to look into upgraded cooling
