To all you dumbass commanders that get an arty, supply, or UAV request and then you accept it while its regenerating, causing it to get rejected anyway. Here is a little Tip for you, leave the request up while the requested resource is regenerating, hit your "Page up" key to say affirmative or something like that, then when the thing regenerates itself, ONLY THEN, do you accept it. You dolt.

id like to add: quit droping arty on your own bases just because u see 1 enemy soldier, im sure the 10 other of your own team at that base can get him. it's really annoying to spawn into friendly arty.

i had a jackass the other day doing that constantly. also while i was trying to cap bases i would take damage and call for supplies. he would drop them minutes later right when im killed.

It's a shame you can't do anything like this in BF2. Jeep/tank tossing is so much fun.

Given enough plastique you can practically create a small nuclear explosion in OFP...

As to dumb commanders, yeah...

What I find ridiculous is i'll have the enemy commander drop artillery on my position and yet still misses me. And i'll be the only soldier within miles.

EDIT:
and yes some commanders are just anoying, putting artillery over me when I'm in a tank and capping. So many times commanders has done that to me.

I know that. In most cases it can still be fulfilled, or the commander can take note on where its at and he can just drop whatever he needs in that same spot when whatever is needed regenerates...

I was playing Fushe Pass and this guy ShadowViper63 was pissed at our team for killing him on the other team last map before he was switched. So he goes as commander and purposely artilleries us over and over again. We ask him what the hell he's doing and he just says "Cause I hate you guys". The next round I apply as commander and know I'm gonna get it cause I out rank him. Hoping this would help our team out in winning. So he now goes spec ops and c4's our own assets. Needless to say he racked up tons of negative team points, but apparently he had some major issues.

He was proberly too busy flying or fighting or doing something other than commanding. I had that today on a server. Fecker wouldn't resign after being up for mutiny countless times. And I seriously needed a supply crate.

I think commanders get a lot of flack. It's like anything in this world...there's the good and the bad. Some commanders put alot of thought into things, think up tactics, and do their best but are treated really bad because orders aren't followed and whatnot and then they end up getting blamed. You have to feel for those guys. I have done my best to be one of the good by like I say, I get treated poorly a lot too. Then there's the bad commanders that give the good ones a bad name. The just make bad errors, maybe they aren't experienced, or maybe they just don't care. I don't know, but they are bad. In anycase, I'm not quick to judge a commander these days...it's too easy to point a finger in this game. If a commander plays a few rounds and doesn't give orders, doesn't communicate with leaders...etc etc....then I will say he is one of the bad, but otherwise it's hard to say and most commanders are only around for one or two rounds anyway. My old man always told me that whenever you point a finger there's three pointing back at you.

I don't bother with commanding, nobody gives a sh*t about your orders, all you are for is to keep the UAV coming, and the occasional supply drop.

You call others ignorant, yet you are way off. The request does not last that long amazingly. Also others might request the same thing after you. Is it so hard to ask again in 30 seconds ?

Since sometimes you are suurounded by enemy and are a sitting duck while capping, and relatively invulnerable to arty whilst in the tank, we figure it is a safe bet.

Artillery can only destroy a tank if it actually HITS the tank dead on.  Which doesn't happen that often, and if the tank is surrounded by infantry, then arty is warranted I'd imagine.

I don't play commander to much but when i do focus support on the teams that follow orders. If i give an order to three different teams and only one listens, well that team is going to get a lot more of my attnetion. They'll be the first choice for supply crates and call outs. I use arty to soften targets or force an enemy squad to respawn away from my approaching forces giving my teams 10 seconds or so to gain some ground.

But the sad truth about my tactic in the "be a team player or lack support" approach is that only roughly 10 - 20 percent of my time is on the non-team playing members of my team. But i have seen a group of 4 players guided by me and the tools i have as commander do some really amazing things. I would take a well informed and support team of 4 over a group of 20 people that are only out there for kills and pts. Things just seem to get done with the support squads.

Well,
is easy to blame the commander, but also a commander cant do a lot when there´s stupid squad leaders, squad members and lone wolfs;

- You ask a squad leader(s) to go and defend a flag(s). they do nothing. Suddenly there´s only one spawn point and the same idiots that didnt give a shit about your order are asking to kick vote you.

- you say "artillery in your area" like 20 times and still some idiots go into the arty area trying to get a last second kill, or the usual noobs, that get atracted like flies to the big flashy red cannon signal.

-you see an armor that is already smoking, you send supplies to it, but the idiot thinks is a bomb and ran away from it just to get killed seconds later by a noob tuber...

-you start commanding and see you have 3 squads with 2 members each one and like 20 lone wolfs. You ask the loners to form squads so you can coordinate them and you get a STFU NOOB in return. Suddenly, the enemy has eliminated the squad leaders, the commander and capped all flags, still some lone wolfs are alive and camping without caring of taking a flag, they don´t even care to form a squad so people can spawn on them, they think they can kill everybody just by his looks......when there´s only 3 lone wolfs alive they ask what the commander is doing and are asking for a kick vote......

-you signal the enemy armor. you ask your armor team to go and attack them. They dont care and keep fighting running noobs. The enemy armor does a massacre of your team while these morons get 10+ kills...one of the massacred guys ask to kick vote you...

-most of your team is defending a flag. A guy that is sniping birds away from the fight asks for uav and supplies. you tell him hes alone there....he starts a kick vote...

-some idiots doesnt know how to ask for arty, uav or supplies. they think you read minds and can tell the exact second they need it. They think they´re the only ones fighting for the flags...

The problem here is teamplay. Many people doesnt understand this concept. when theres no cordination between commander and squad leaders, and squad members, the fight is lost.

I think the only thing a squad shouldn't ask for is an art strike.  More often than not, the commander has the perfect bird's eye view of the battlefield and the enemy's location thanks to the satellite.

UAVs and especially supply crates are differnt stories

There are two things a commander should NEVER EVER DO

1. Fly

2. Spend the entire round letting us all know that there is an infantry on the other side of the map every 3 seconds.

note: to spot spamming commanders.  These are the units your team cares about finding.

1: snipers
2: tanks/apcs
3: choppers
4: planes

thats about it.

Well said sgt Bennet. I was all fired up to post and you beat me to it. The only people that I have ever seen cry about not getting a supply is the sniper up on the hill who thinks his needs are more important than the team.  I also hate it when there is a super hot flag that is being capped by the enemy and there is one of my guys hiding. I drop arty but he decides to run out and get one last kill.

The thing I especially HATE is when someone takes commander for the sole purpose of keeping uav's over his own head while he tank whores or helo whores. I have also seen the above mentioned sniper do the same thing. Way to support the team guys!

Yes, a comander should only spot targets that are actually going to show up on someone's minimized hud map.

I also love when I click on a squad leaders number and give him an order, then I realize that he is in some single person airplane. He can't execute any of my orders. Noone can spawn on him. It really blows me away how many people play this game with only themselves in mind. They would rather take a loss and get a better score than to get a win and possibly a lower score.
