hi guys! usually i'm not that kinda idiot who has a lot of problems installing a patch and etc... lol
but i confronted a very strange problem since 5 days and counting....
suddenly one day when i was going to play some bf2 i was shocked to see the server list with minimum pings of 2000ms!!!! and to cutout all the hasstles about adwares and dowlading in the background and shit (of course i checked em all) i pinged the same server i intend to join through the game (tried that with all combinations with my 2 identitcal pcs, i have them on a gigabit lan network and an 8ip static linksys router with a 2mb DSL connection) all the pings came back with 100-120ms which is totally perfect from where i live, but not 2000ms of course!!!
i even changed my router with a new one!! also tried to change the switch... reinstalled the game on both pcs , even tried playing with the old patch, old or new it didnt matter at all!!!
in the end i tried to ping the server as in "ping 85.236.101.60 -t" on run-->cmd and played the game, seen the high ping servers and quit the game to find out a super steady ping going on the cmd with no frigin change which made me sure it is never a hardware nor a setting problem, and i bet it is not a software problem aswell ( i reinstalled the whole shit twice)  i would swear it is a problem of the client server when u start bf2 and login... i think they have the problem! this is the only solution! but the main problem which is making me nuts is that i looked around the whole forum and couldnt find a single similar problem!?!?!?!?
any body have any ideas!??!?!
help please!

oh yeah i forgot to tell u that this happened 5 days ago... stayed all day trying to troubleshoot it, then the next day when i tried it was totally normal!!!!! :S  so i played like 5 hours, then the next day i played again, then yesterday i didnt touch the pc, and now today i have the same problem?!!!!  i wonder what tomorrow may bring! also another info.... i have my beighbour, we r on the same ISP, same speed and same settings, (8ip) and even same shit.... when i have such problem he hasnt!!!! MaMaMIA!!!!

thank u for your help and sorry for the boring yet stupid post!

Next time that happens, goto dslreports.com and perform a speed test.  If it's normal, it the games' problem.  If it's not, call your isp and ask them why the speed test is sucking (not in those words of course).

Are you running any kind of firewall? if you are, try disabling it, or allowing an exception on the ports bf2 needs to connect to the internet. It could be that the packets the game is sending to your computer being held up by your router.

Wow, ya i had a similair problem last time EA was making some changes. I actually couldnt even log on sometimes. It eventually went away all on its own.

HOWEVER, here are some things to try:
1. Instead of shutting down ur firewall, never good idea, try using a different firewall. Like, Sygate personal firewall, Norton bought them out and has since shut them down but you can still download the product from other sites. Google it...
This firewall does not analyze every packet, it simply allows whatever, program you designate to have full access to the net. Yes you do the same thing with Norton or others with their rules but it will still analyze every packet with those. Bear in mind that you will still need to pay attention to what programs you allow, but you sound like you probably already know this.

2. You can safely shut down ur virus scanner without it being a problem as long as you turn her back on after ur done gaming. If you can stand it, run a scan every night. That way, if something did sneak in it should get picked up later.

3. You mentioned that you pinged the server you were trying to play on...what were the results? What was ur TTL, etc. You might want to try pinging some other things like google and other known good servers. Ping it once without the "-t" to get the ip address. Then use the ip address to ping it. That way ur not using the DNS to resolve the name of www.google.com. This will just give you a more precise reading. Ping the servers you play on and compare to the known good servers.

4. Try a direct connect. Bypass ur switch and/or router. Connect directly with modem.

5. Shut down any other pc's in the house. They might be using ur bandwidth and you might not know it.

6. Download cablenut...www.cablenut.com. Read the site on how to use it. It'll tweak ur registry for optimum setting based on ur connection speed. All info is on the site. Minor improvements can be seen with this but everything counts sometimes.

7. Curious to know what you have running in the background. Shut down all other crap using ur Ctrl+Alt+Del. There are plenty of services that dont need to be running that might be using ur bandwidth. Plenty on the net to help you with what is safe to shut down and not.

8. Look at what is using ur connection by typing netstat in a cmd line. After you've shut everything down in taskmanager and closed all other programs, you shouldnt have too much in there. Sounds like you know DOS  a bit so use netstat -a. Then look at what is listening or established. You might want to shut down those ports under some of them and see if speeds improve or completely shut's you down from a connection. PLEASE TAKE NOTES AS TO WHAT YOU ARE DOING SO THEY CAN BE UNDONE!!! Randomly shutting down ports can shot down stuff that you need like an autoupdate so be sure to undo what you have done once testing is over.

9. Then the obvious stuff like spyware. Spybot -Search and Destroy, Lavasoft Adaware, and even the more up to date Norton products have spyware scanners you can use to remove them. Spybot is my choice - FREE!!!!

10. Lastly and this might be somewhat extreme you can try a new product that is out there. It is an internet booster. Really all it does is prioritize gaming packets. So if you are sending an email while gaming, it will slow down the email and keep the games connection or packets flowing with priority. This is a very helpful thing if you have more than one pc in the house and/or you have other things that are using your connection on ur computer. Here's a link to the product: http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustratingReview.asp?item=N82E16833164151
Made by hawkings technology. Ubisoft is even using the technology in some of their stuff. Ubisoft makes games like Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry. So that might be an indicator of it's validity.

There are probably other things that i cant think of right now to try, hopefully someone else will chime in

Did you go to PC Clown College? Virus scanners read files, not packets. Virus scanners in no way modify or scan internet traffic. Firewalls would scan packets however...Perhaps thats what you meant...

oh shit u wont beleive it guys! i spent all this time to find out that the ISP is fucking out with that range of ips!! i hell donno what they did, sounds like smth with closing ports and shit?~ donno
but what i tried is :
i got at home an 8ip ADSL with a static range of X for example, and at work (which is totally somewhere else) i have the same ISP and with same range of static ips..... i tried my laptop on both connections with the same problem!
so when i went later to a friend of mine which has EXACTLY the same settings and hardware (Also my neighbour so we have the same wire routing and shit), same ISP and 8ips aswell... but the only different thing was his range of static ips Y for example!
using the same laptop on that Y connection worked extremely well!!!!!
now i called the frigin ISP and screamed at them waisting my time trying to troubleshoot.... will have like 10 days to switch from X to Y!! so hopefully i will be able to play again!
the only sad thing is that my neighbour and the rest of the clan now has better scores :S  LOL
thank you guys for your help anyway though it wasnt apparently the solution, but it adds experience and knowledge.... thanks again and sorry for waisting your time
Peace
