Just to make things clear, I did do a search, and found lots of help on strategy, but nothing that really helped MY needs.

I can't fly, maybe it's because my mother found a wingless man, but I doubt that's all there is.

I have tried using the keyboard/mouse, I've tried just using the keyboard, and I've tried a flight stick, which of these is best, (I actually got off the ground with the flight stick) and is there some trick to it, (if the flight stick is the best way to fly, great, but I'll need to go buy a new one, cause mine is a little out of alignment)

thanks in advance

Joystick is a must. I found things to go realy fast at first and I got shot down quickly. Practice in single player mode and after a couple hours you should get the hang of it.

I repeat myself, PRACTICE in SINGLE PLAYER mode! You will piss aother players if they see you flying like a rooky online while they were waiting for the plane.

I disagree with this. Do NOT practice in single player mode, because the computer jets are dicks, and you have no commander to spot for you.

I would suggest go online and find a empty wake server and practice there. A few days ago i asked how to do  a VTO in the Harrier, and then once they told me how i went to an Empty Wake server to practice. Now i can do it quickly and effeciently. There's no enemy pilots to worry about shooting you down, so you can hone your flying skills and bombing ablility. If you need to dogfight, get a friend in the server with you.

actually... if you switch to the mec team, and fly to the u.s. base and steal the f-15, you can practice all the bombing runs you want until you crash from boredom

1: no worries, I always try new things out in singleplayer, that's how I figured out my flight stick was out of alignment, cause my plane started veering to the left as soon as I gave it gas

2: thanks for the google video idea, I'll be sure to check it out

3: is there any particulare key config suggested for the flight stick? x-axis y-axis etc.???

-=EDIT=- in the process of writing this reply, I noticed there were a couple more posts, thanks for more replies, and I like the idea of playing on an empty server, the first thing I need to do is learn HOW to fly, I can worry about dodging bullets and rockets from bots in single player mode later, thanks again, if anyone else has more info please feel free

try the saitek cyborg evo!!!!!! , youll just have to mess with the setting until you find what you like... also, check the forums for flying tips, theres a lot of good info. in there, like switching views to check your six, and seeing where your bombs drop

just practice.... thats all there is to it... i learned how to fly a jet and not crash in about 10 hours practice... then 10 more till i could bomb stuff effectively, then few more to shoot down helies w/ bulelts only... and i do use the mouse but i would suggest the joystick for jet piloting.  you just cant beat it because of how hard you can constantly turn, unlike a mouse you can only turn so hard for so long (unless u work reeeally hard at it)

and heck.. go join a pub... who cares what people call u... just learn.. i know ive learned all my lessons in pubs and i do fairly well.. just keep practicing

edit-   oh and if your computer can handle it, i would suggest turning geometry to high in video settings... its very important for a jet... but of course this is after u can fly w/o crashing into a wall.

turning geometry up will increase the distance you will see something... yes i know u have view distance at 100%.... but if your at low geometry and go to high, you will see twice as far.

@Lengoron: You should join a server with one or two other people in it, and then practice bombing them
btw, how do you pull in your landing gear ??

No worries, I run the game @ full high everything (other than AA) 1280x1024, I think I'm going to try talking my wife into letting me buy a new filght stick, any reason I sould get one with throttle stick also, or just one with throttle control good enough, maybe someone could send me a link or two with some nice flight stick setups???

-=EDIT=- by the way, where do you all get those cool stats images that show your awards and everything?

lol first time i tried a jet, everything was looking way to fast for me and crashed after like 10 secs in the air, trying to fly a chopper and a jet got me 75% of my suicides. After around 2 hours in each transport i started behing comfortable, now its a real joke to fly.

practice is the key like many other said, i dont like playin with a joystick so im playin with only my keyboard for flying and in dogfights i usually get the kill

You'll get it eventually just keep practicing.

UPDATE: I configured my joystick properly, and tried it out in single player for a little bit and after about 5 minutes there were no more bots left to kill, so I got online, and got my basic aviator badge, not only that, but I had 17 kills (in plane)  and like 25 deaths, but most of those were suicides, I was only actually shot down about 8 times, I enjoy dogfights BTW, but I think I need to adjust my pitch/yaw a little, cause when I get a "bogie" on my tail, I have a hard time shaking them.....

BTW does anyone know why sometimes when flying over my air strip, I don't repair/resupply? having only just started flying, I still get the "Voice of Gawd" telling me how to do things, so I fligh low and slow over the strip, and nothing happens......

Anyhow, now I need to learn to fly choppers......... Thanks for all the advice everyone

it's actually pretty easy to fly jets, haven't been brave enough for helo's yet, but that's comming next.

well, I'm not exactly a "n00b" as you put it, but if you notice I've got a .50 k/d ratio w/ 821 more deaths than kills....... you're almost making fun of me.... but I can fly..... so there

Sorry, no, Joystick is not a must.

But unlike what some people say: yes practise in SP all you want. Its exposure and gets you comfy with the plane.

You've completely misread his post.  "I don't know how not to know how to fly" means everyone should be able to fly.  That being said, it took me a while to become competent in flight.  I still get my ass handed to me when I'm in an F-35B against a J-10.

EDIT:  As polarbearz said, Joystick is NOT a must.  I'm a mouse and keyboard pilot, and check out my aviator stats.

you're right, sorry, I did miss that part, I appologize...... you can get me back when/if you see me in game.....

Also, I think it's great you all can fly KB/MS, but for me, joystick is the only way, or I'm all over the place....

used to fly with keyboard only when i didn't have joystick

but now that ive got cyborg evo, i'm leet lol jk but waaaay better than keyboard alone

shitload of advantage over keyboard... you can actually aim MG with joystick

and stratch, i understand somebody would say joystick is not a must because some people seriously can't adjust to the wiggly-ness of joystick...but your score is not that impressive

i know mine isn't either but still..

i recommend joystick all the way.. and the thread starter dude, if you need any help flying pm me and i can teach you thing or two when we get on a server hehe

I dunno... I have no problem aiming the MG with mouse.  I'd imagine it might be a little more smooth with a joystick, but I've grown very used to using the mouse.  I may try the stick some time, but for now I'll keep practicing with the mouse.  Indeed my scores aren't anything amazing, but I think they're alright considering I only recently became a decent pilot--about a month ago or so.

A side note, if anyone's flown the Eurofighter, do you experience some strange auto-compensation for tilting the nose up and down?  I was trying to make a machine gun run a few tiems and every time I nudged the nose down the damn thing would pull right back up.

Edit:
There's an excellent thread with some pointers once you've got flying down:
