I don't think there is a single kit in the game that is useless.  Every one of them has it's advantages and disadvantages, and anyone who plays any single kit a significant amount of time can show how that kit will shine.

If a sniper could not be seen on the UAV or Scan I would use the kit more.As it is now the sniper kit is my least favorite.
Umm... most of your hours in the game are from inside a chopper or armor.  That's almost like me saying that I've been killed more times by shotguns than landmines.  All because only about 17% of my total game time has been in armor or transport vs. "ground-pounding".

I don't want to brag but I'm damn good with the sniper rifle.

Give me a zipline and I'll be even deadlier.

The silenced pistol is also your friend. Claymores should be placed so you'll know when someone is behind you.

Unless you're definitely gonna get a headshot or your target is in the middle of a huge firefight, don't shoot for 2-hit kills.

The sniper kit isn't for everyone. It takes a lot of patience to wait for that perfect shot. I played as a sniper in PlanetSide, and thought it a much better "class" (PlanetSide doesn't have kits, just points to customize your character) than much of the grunt loadouts people had.

Bah, my point isn't coming across, woke up too early... OK, if you don't like something, don't play it. People who play a snipers generally seem to play the game to challenge themselves/ have fun rather than point "whore". I applaud these people.

The sniper kit is almost useless to your team, but it's fun to play.

I choose the sniper class only if i think my team is already winning.

I've just recently taken up sniping, I'm still not great (and yea my stats suck due to trying to play sniper when I first got the game)

Whoever it was who said about the learning curve was damm right, most people can headshot someone who is standing still without a problem, but headshots when they're sprinting, thats a whole new ball game. I can hit sprinting people in the torso, but damm i can't hit them in the head.

But to anyone who said the sniper kit sucks I suggest you don't just look a great snipers scores, but the fact that they make kills that no-one else in their team could. And as the oh great bigheaded one quite often says, there is quite a big pyscolgical effect. Just think how annoyed you get everytime you see your health plummet to 2 bars, that basically puts you out the battle till you find a medic or die.

Ok, I play with some awesome sniper. easily racks up 70 points on sharqi. ccording to him (haven't seen him play on wake) on wake he gets 100+ average. anyway we have had many a match when we have won by a  25 or so points. He alone got them 25 kills. without him we would have lost alot of matches.

Snipers are useless are they? Why? Don't they carry a noob tube attachment (GL) on teh end of there gun for you? Don't they spray a million bullets a minute? I a snipe quite a bit. I'm pretty crap but  am getting better (staring to get moving headshots) and they are not useless. Learn how to use them i CQC they own pretty much all kits.

And you may notice, good snipers are usually the best/most skilled players. It takes alot of practice to get good at sniping.

I don't think that sniper kit is useless, because he can cover his team and spot enemy armors, kill another snipers and even can capture a control point (claymors can help in it).

I was playing as a squad leader (no one else in my squad) on mastuur, and all i did was defend flag, waiting for the badguys to run in and cap my flag..... most times they met the business end of my claymore (got 2 in one blast, and looked sweet as hell thru my scope), or a headshot sitting in the turret of a jeep... If armour came in to cap i would run away like a little girl, only to return a couple minutes later to re-cap it.

I think the originator of the thread is wrong, on the proper map played the proper way he can be a very useful tool.  Take warlord for instance, guard the tv station, use your claymore, then find a roof opposite the deck of the tv station and guard the sucker, have your commander drop you some supplies to reload your claymore.....thus one man, and yes just one i have don it many many time, can guard the tv station by himself....  you sit across and snipe anyone trying to climb in, and the claymores take care of those choosing stairs.  In fact it was in this way i got my veteran ordinance, soon to be expert.  I actually got 37 kills by claymore last night but, you know how that goes, sometimes  it takes a couple extra to have then register, but soon.  Anyways good luck with that.  Sniper is not useless, you just have to be smarter

no way, on an infantry heavy map like mastuur or sharqi
i love to have a sniper in my squad, to take out their snipers and to keep enemy infantry pinned down, whenever i'm sniper in a squad thats what i do, it makes a WORLD of difference to your 2-3 guys on the flag when you can see the enemy first and take them out before they lob a nade at your squadmates

Sniper is my most favourite class, I go sniper 90% of the time when I load the game now.

I can kill people with assault rifle on drop prone situations alot of the time.

Sniper is not a weak class, and taking flags, well sniper is the second most powerful kit taking a flag, although loosing to armour.  Just place a claymore either way flag goes neutral You [Claymore] Him.

You have a good which potentially can do serious damage and is one shot kill to the head.  Take that advantage and headshot them please. kthxbye.

dont know if this has been said before, but anyways...

...if as a sniper I see a friendly squad come across an enemy squad, i will quickly try to get torso shots on all the members of the enemy squad to make my teammates job much easier. all they need to do is get a bullet to hit the enemy and hes gone. also if i cant kill a random guy who is running i will still try and get a torso shot for the psychological effect - once you're on two bars of health you're pretty much out of the battle until you find a medic or die.

On long-range stalemates like in karkand, with one team on the train accident and the other on the opposite side of the river, its snipers that allow the infantry to move across when armour isnt doing its job. most of you guys are pissed because you see too many snipers on your team, and that is understandable, but the kit itself is certainly not useless if a decent guy gets his hands on it.

i dont see how you can get such a good k/d ratio on karkand tahadar. am i the only wake island sniper. ive found that most of the really good snipers play sharqi and karkand. ive recently took up long range sniping, its going well so far, my k/d ratio is getting better now. i used to use the type 88 until the new L96A1 came out, it's an awsome gun at range, with not much bullet drop at even 400m.

yeah i like certain sniping spots that are pretty hard to discover if and *only* if there are few or no teammates nearby. when teammates show up and start throwing nades and what not, that spot becomes an arty magnet! my k/d ratio pretty much on how often arty kills me, not other peeps. i dont play wake too much, but when i do i love sniping from the middle island at the start of the round. trouble is, that island is another arty and J-10 magnet..

Argh!  Don't you hate that?!

I don't know how many times that's happened, but every time annoys me to all high hell.  The worst I ever say was on Mashtuur when I was sitting on the top of a building looking down into the mosque's plaza.  I was on a killing spree with about 30-35 kills, 0 deaths when a guy crawled up with me, and began spraying down into the same area that I was firing into.... WITH A SAW!!!!  I just couldn't believe how fast my spot went from "ultra-secret, where the f*** is he shooting from?!" to "arty/tank round/machine gun/sniper rifle heaven, VENGEANCE IS MINE!!."  He caused my one death in that round, and boy was I pissed!  I would almost believe that he'd done it on purpose, but I'd like to think that it was a brainfart moment instead.

The question you need to be asking yourself is this: Are you doing what is best for your team at the time or are you doing what is best for yourself?

Obviously if you spawn on your SL with a tank you know is in the area as a Sniper you are an idiot.
If you are in a CQC situation and you know you are going to be and you spawn as a Sniper you are an idiot.
If you like to charge flags or do otherwise other assault type missions as a Sniper you are an idiot.
If you know your Squad needs ANY KIT OTHER THAN SNIPER in order to be effective and yet you spawn Sniper you are an idiot.

A few have said it correctly in this thread as to how to be a sniper correctly and now to be an effective one. One even explains how to be a Sniper in a squad and how to cover them. But before you spawn as sniper regardless of how much you like the kit ask yourself the question at the top of my post. If you want to be a teamplayer then you will ask yourself that before you choose EVERY kit. If you want to just do whatever on your own for yourself then obviously you will choose whatever kit you want.

Teamplay vs. Selfplay.

That is the only question for most kits and situations.

often it is annoying, but sometimes i find that the enemy has advanced past my position and im pretty much surrounded. one wrong move can make an enemy notice my position. in such situations i actually hope a squad can make it through near my position before i am discovered and divert the enemys attention. also if i'm low on ammo or health i will call out for some help, and hope somebody shows up.

Wow, the topic starter is the only person I've ever seen with a Special Foces army as his favorite army. But, really, snipers aren't useless. I play it, and loads of times go on kill streaks.
