I'm wondering about what happens during this long verifying client data period. Does BF2 send any data? Does BF2 look for cheats (and if yes, why? we got PB!)? This procedure seems so unnecessary to me and I think its waste of (much much) time...

Any ideas?

(plz no "no idea" or "who cares" posts - post if you KNOW anything. thanks in advance)

I think it hashes (which means it generates a checksum) the relevant data and compares it with the checksums the files should have. If you modify only 1 bit of your data, it would produce a total different checksum.

i'm pretty sure this is correct.

i think BF2 is comparing the data you have on your machine to the data that you should have on your machine.  if theres any difference, then you wont be able to connect.

ok, very useful, thx.

and now the bonus question: why takes verifying on a win server more time than on a linux server (at least for me)?

the reason why I post this issue here is, that since I've installed Euro Force verifying takes much longer, even on a linux server...
