Here's what bugs me:

Badges are based on time. Why does sitting in a vehicle, whether you're killing, idling, or commanding, have anything to do with vehicles?

It should all be about how many kills you have in that vehicle. K/D ratio would be unfair, or else it would be like the war college ribbon, but just the total kills shows your ability in a vehicle. Also, driver kill assists should be added to that, because a good chopper pilot deserves the helicopter badge.
Should be more like

100 points in vehicle for basic
10000 points in vehicle for veteran
40000 points in vehicle for expert

HOURLY REQUIREMENTS
THATS what bugs me.

Well, certainly, the time was MEANT for experience. Meaning when your in the vehicle, you must be active, in battle. With that many hours under your belt, you have got to be good, right? I mean, think of all the situations you might have been in during that 100hrs you were in the tank, fighting. Thats what the game makers intentions was. However, the requirements are certainly rediculous. 100hrs? Come the fuck on, lets get real here. It would take forever to reach that amount of time. They didnt intend for people to sit and idle in them, unfortinatly though, with the requirements being so damned high, you just about have to.

Lets take transport and ground defense for example. Nobody hardly uses ground defense unless its a tow missle. The mounted MG is ok i guess, however though, you are a stationary target with limited shooting range. Therefore, your easily killed. Transport? Lets not even go there. They are the easiest vehicle to take out, grenades can do that job. Yet they expect 5 solid minutes in a round for basic, then another 50 hours to get the vet badge. Lets get real here, if you last 5 solid minutes in a transport, there should be a special badge just for that alone. The time requirements are rediculous. So, the only way to earn them quickly is to idle in them.

I almost wonder if the game makers have even took into consideration a players ability to achive high points yet not be even close to the badge requirements. Therefore, the practicle solution is idling, unfortinatly.

i agree with OP,
what gets me is the requirements for medals as well, 500 hours for combat infantry medal, which otherwise only requires all you basic class badges (plus pistol and knife) which a decent player can acheive in the first 50 hours of play

i only vaguely understand what they are going for with the time requirements, for the most part i think they are total BS and reward time played instead of skill, which is also the biggest complaint i have about the whole system
