question:

when commanding do you:

stay in a local area and just command

or

run around and assist the team while commanding

ive seen a lot of people complain about commanders jumping into the fight - thus this post

me?...ill run around and command at the same time - i dont have to be on the commander screen the entire round - it feels like a waste of time between uav, arty and supply requestsby squad leads and drops by me

imo a good commander watches the command screen as he/she is walking/running around covering squad leads

its easy for me to watch where my squads leads are and drop supplies, uav, and/or arty ahead of them when needed as i go for some other flag or defend a flag with the lone wolves - i end up getting more points this way multitasking - i wont get in a tank, chopper or jet though...that is a waste of team resources...ill get in a jeep though to get someplace quick...usually im covering teammembers when not in the commander screen

id start a poll but saw no option for it in the post

It matter how long you survive,  and how frequently you help your team.  In most cases you would want to stay in one area b/c your helping your team 24/7 and plus getting kills does not help your score it all depends on "how well your team works" and can improve this by helping them with art, uav, sup etc...

Depends how im feeling tbh, commanding as a sniper hidein away somewhere is handy, get a few kills if someone strays in view rest of the time commanding. Either that or a bit of commander tank whoring, I know ppl say u cant tank and command but c'mon guys is multi-tasking really that hard for you? lol

What I would say is, dont command and fly, that really isn't possible (maybe gunner seat in an attack heli but thats all)

a good commander should be scanning at every opportunity and spotting every enemy / vehicle...putting uav at "busiest" - most useful areas etc and dropping supplies when requested.

also using VOIP at every opportunity.

it sounds like ur a noob commander and i would mutiny you straight away.
sorry

Depends on what map it is. Is our main is uncap I'll usually move around the map because no one wants to go to a far away flag to kill one enemy who is guarding it. If it's not I'll usually just get an armor and sit in it by the flag.

Actually you mentioning the scan spot thing has reminded me of THE most USELESS thing any commander can do... spotting units before the red Scan dots have faded away, Why? becouse they dont show on the radar for anyone if you dont wait, not even you the commander. All ppl get is 30 lines of spam, some annoying commander voice yelling 30 odd spot messages and NO red dots to follow.

Pisees me right off.

K stick a fork in me, coz im done.

depends on the circumstances.

when youre playing with just a few people (i.e. 7vs7) its useful. on a (full) 32 / 64 slot server you should hide your ass and STAY AWAY from the front. being commander is a full time job. you dont make points and friends when youre fighting. if your team sucks, dont go into the battle, leave instead.

Sometimes I run around and kill single persons that attack the base where I'm hiding if nobody else does this.

spotting can be one of the most usefull things in the game when you have a good commander on your team. As bingobones said, if you were on my team and i saw you running around when you should be doing a proper commander job, then i would mutiny your sorry ass.

a good commander should be telling each squad what to do, as soon as they have completed their task, then you give them another order. If they dont follow your orders, then there is nothing you can really do. But you will usually get one good squad in the game and you can help them out by following their movement and spotting all the enemies who may pose as a threat to them.

If you are running around fighting with the rest of your team, then you are not watching what all your squads are doing. You are also going to miss people requesting for UAV, Artillery or Supply drops, and this can get really annoying if you are just about to take a control point but desperately need UAV support but the commander has just got his ass wiped with a PKM because he thinks that he is doing his team a favour by killing the enemy himself.

Edit: if there is an easy target near by who is about to take a base, by all means take him down!

Whether you "assist your team" or "not" has much to do with the nof players and map size. With few players it makes more sense to be rambo commander.

If I see a commander on the field I know scan is not used and snipers can roam free, so defending is not advisable. However, some commanders do a better commander job being on the field then some who does it full time. They're also more relaxed about orders and have a more assisting attitude than some "the team, that's me" kind of commanders. I'm normally not bugged until they fail to assist me with scan or supplies.

I almost exclusively play 64 slot servers and when I'm commander it's a full time job. Still, I'm sometimes forced to take action if there are enemies in the main. I hope my team feel a bit guilty when they see their commander have to do their job but I know they don't care.

a good commander can do that and move/defend/cover at the same time...

im not going out killing for a purpose just for cover and support of the team...as i wait for uav, sat and arty to come back up and be used again

i do agree with the others though...there are times im just sitting there spotting out stuff and dropping uav, arty and supplies for a few hetic minutes....

also i usually stray away from the 40+ servers...i find more teamwork and great commanders in 32 and lower servers

hate to add an edit but:

sometimes i feel bad about my teammembers when im commanding and i get the most flag defend, assist and capture points (cause i tend to flank and hit flags where no1 is and and pay much more attention to the uav and spotting than others)
