I have really bad FPS problems in Battlefield 2, I thought it was due to high settings but when I checked I was running everything on low and at 800*600 resolution.

I changed the settings to something that my computer should be able to handle, the majority of options on high and resolution at 1280*1024 but obviously the problem isn't rectified.

My PC specs are as follows;

AMD Athlon 64 Bit 3500+ 2.2Ghz
1 Mb Corsair RAM
nVidia Geforce 7800GTX 256MB
ASUS A8N SLi

I had better performance on medium settings using an ATi 9800 Pro (128Mb) this is really annoying. Anyone got any tweaks or suggestions which doesn't involve me turning down the graphics as this doesn't seem to work

dam your system is almost like mine except i have a amd fx 53 and 2gb corsair ram. did you try updateing all your drivers? try flashing your bios to the latest dirver and grab the newest driver for your nvidia. i have the same mobo as you and graphic card so you should be able to run everything on high. update your drivers is all i can thinnk of or maybee uninstall and reinstall your game. could be when you installed your game some files didnt install right.

When you make changes to your system it is advisable to delete the cache so you can optimize your shaders.  They can be found here:

C:\Documents and Settings\***YOUR USERNAME***\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Also add another GB of RAM, that has immensely improved the game performance and seeing that you have that nice expensive videocard, something tells me that you can afford another module of RAM.

do a search in the forums for tweakguides,   a post of mine or someone else's will come up for the link. That place will tell u what to put your settings on to maximize your fps!  and deleet your folders in BF2 under my documents, files may be corrupt.  GL

might be that you only have 1mb ram (jk)

similar to myself

Athlon64 3500+
2 gig pc3200 ram (4x512)
6800GT
Asus A8N SLi
also run in 1280x1024 on a 19"TFT

best thing I did was buy the 2nd gig of ram

also try:
update chipset drivers aswell as gfx driver
flash bios
uninstall Asus enhanced driver if you have it
uninstall all the Asus overclocking shite (AI booster, smartdoctor)
check your monitor refresh rate (right click on desktop/properties/settings/advanced/monitor and put it to the max that your monitor supports)
turn off cool 'n' quiet feature in bios

Hopes this helps out.

I have a 2.8Ghz P4, built in sound, BFG Nvidia 6200 OC 256MB DDR RAM, and 512 Mb of RAM.  This is far from high end.  I play on 64 player maps all the time, and the only time I have lag is when I first spawn when I just enter the round.  Each time I spawn after that, I do not have lag.  Here are my BF2 settings, (I am trying to do this by memory since I am at work).

Graphics:
Screen Res:  1028 X 768 either 60Hz or 75 Hz refreash.
Everything else on low, view distance 100%.

Sound:
High
EAX is not enabled.
VoIP is not enabled (I use Ventrillo instead)

When I did have VoIP enabled I did have lag, along with a ping rate of 300+, without it enabled I have a ping rate anywhere between 30 - 50, usally around 45.  I have had my ping rate jump to 180+ but at the time, I was playing with a lot of people from Europe (the server is located in TX in the USA.)  I did not see a lot of lag when that occured.
