People (including me) have complained about the insane requirements for this digital rank, but out of boredom (played Oblivion straight for 20 hours) I decided to do some math. I am aware that there are multiple topics about this, so feel free to lock it. Just sharing some info.

My SPM is 1.9

I currently have ~45000 points
I've played for ~390 hours
I need ~135000 more points to get to 180000
~135k/45k=~3 (sets of 45k points)
~3*~390=~1170 hours until the 180k point deadline
~1180 more hours required for me to get all expert vehicle badges.

Therefor, at my current moderate score rate, I can get the expert badges before 180k if:
a) I spend the rest of my Battlefielding in vehicles.
b) I purposefully slow down my score rate.
c) I subtract thousands of points from my score by committing TK holocaust.

Given these, most people who absolutely, positively want to be a general are going to choose b) and piss everyone else off for idling and chronopadding. But who would really want this when they're obviously going to be accused of cheating?

Thanks, EA.

I play the game. But I also command and do cool things like run all the way across a map to help people, provide sniper fire, C4/bomb enemy assets, and fly where my commander tells me to provide CAS. It doesn't give you a great SPM like sitting outside the Karkand hotel with a tank does. Kudos to anyone with a high number, but that doesn't mean that <2's don't "play the game," or "AFK."

You may have confused my post as complaining that 180,000 points is too far away. Quite the contrary. Instead, I brought up that it is nearly impossible to get for anyone with a medium-high global score and a somewhat decent SPM, unless they idle, do nothing but fly/drive, or massively TK. Unfortunately, there are too many people willing to do just that to get their stars, to the exclusion of all else.

I personally choose to sit in GD or (if there's an inactive area) AD emplacement while commanding merely because it is 100% successful in preventing people from tracking you down and knife/paddle-padding you while you're looking at your overhead. Just common sense, not "padding".

Yea.  The requirements for 1 star and up is insanely crazy.  At least give people the ability to achieve 1 star.  The way it is set up now, .01% of the bf2 community will get to 1 star.  Everyone else will give up and move on to another game.  Once you get to Colonel, there just isn't any incentive to keep playing.

The vehicle badge requirement is very nasty. It should either be changed to Expert Tank OR Aviator OR Helicopter and Expert Air OR Ground defense, or the time requirements for the badges reduced.

Also, you can't lose global points, so don't bother becoming Noobmurderer.

Edit: SF medals don't require 4500 hours. FFS USE THE SEARCH.

It would probably take longer than that, because you're not guaranteed to get into a vehicle at the start of the round, it could possible take a long while. General is overrated anyway, I personally consider idling in a vehicle (unless you were commander) statpadding. It will be interesting to see if EA reset rb378wby.

Technically, once I get Sgt. Major, I don't really have any stat-incentive to play the game since the weapons would be unlocked. Instead, I'd just play for fun.
