My guess is that the name of the vehicle may take precedence to make sure that the pilot gets his driver kill assist. Example, whenever I'm flying my buddy around, he tvs something, but the guys bails so that it says

=cREE= FatmanX45 [anything but AH-12] some guy

Then I don't get a driver kill assist, and it makes me sad.

Incorrect. It will still say that you blew them up with an AT mine or claymore. However, if they jumped out of a vehicle before hitting the mine, the resulting (likely) death will either be a simple "is no more," or you'll have "killed" them with the vehicle they hopped out of, rather than with your mine.

i really have to disagree on this one.  everytime i've put down an AT mine or claymore and then jumped into a vehicle, it always says "ThomasMorgan [T-90] NubCakes" instead of "ThomasMorgan [Claymore] NubCakes".

also, everytime it happens it makes me think because i'll get random kill messages saying i used the vehicle when i know i didn't...and then i'll remember i had laid down mines two minutes prior.
