G'day,

When I tried to logon today, my BF2 client stopped responding at 'Connecting to account server' (after you login).
So I uninstalled battlefield 2, and then installed it again. I patched it with the 1.21 full patch, and then the incremental patch up to 1.22.
When I tried to connect to the server I always play on, it says please load battlefield without any modifications etc right patch etc etc.
So I thought it must be a patching problem, so I uninstalled battlefield 2 again, download the full 1.22 patch and off we go again.
When I try to connect to the server it still says this.
What else can I try in order for the patches to work?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Jack.

Make sure you have a clean uninstall, ie. sweep the register for any and all references to battlefield 2..

Hope that helps..

1) Run > regedit > search for Battlefield2 and delete everything you see
2) Get a third-party program to do it for you..

Or u can simply rename your BF2.exe back to original before u patch, that is if u renamed it in the first place to bf22.exe or something like that.

I hope you didn't install the game, re-name it and then try to patch it...

No, I havn't renamed any of my battlefield 2 files.
Ok, I deleted some reg's that were linked to battlefield 2.
I figured the problem may be SF - its running on the 1.22 patch (since i didn't uninstall it) so I uninstalled it, and battlefield 2 and installed just battlefield 2 again.
Now it is saying, when I try to open the patch file, cannot find the install folder for battlefield 2 (TM).

Bah, annoying.

And now, I can't even uninstall battlefield 2.
Come up with these 2 errors when I go start->programs->EA Games->bf2->uninstall
must be that reg i deleted =/

Ouch. I cant help you with this, but as a general advice to you and others, always uninstall SF, then BF2, then install both plus any boosters, then use a full patch. Also, restart your comp after installing the games and after patching.

http://www.ccleaner.com/

Be sure to run the "issues" part of the cleaner, that will take care of the registry..
the "cleaner" will delete any and all cookies and internet history (inshort - stuff you might want to keep )

uninstall all bf2 related games, then clean the registry, then install both bf2 and SF, then patch using the full patch..

Hope that helps!

See, the problem with that is I cannot even uninstall bf2 now, because of the errors I posted before.

Ugh i'm getting very annoyed with this, can anybody provide me with a solution do uninstall battlefield 2?

If all else fails -> format c:\

Because if you count the hours you used to find a solution, and compare them to the time used for formatting/reinstalling/patching, you might be playing already..

Go to > "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES" and delete the folder named "Battlefield 2". Reinstall BF2 then patch. See if that works out.

I'm not really keen on doing that, since some files are registered to system32 etc etc, and if I just delete 1 folder when I try reinstall it may detect that my CD key is still being used because there are still some BF2 files on my comp. Just a thought...don't know if that happens.

No that is nothing to worry about. Trust me I have done this many times!

Do it!

Just as I thought, another solution leads to another problem.
I Deleted the battlefield 2 folder, the program still shows in the add/remove thing in control panel.
I click remove, the same error comes up as when I try to uninstall bf2.
mad.

[edit]

Sorry for posting so much.

Ok, I was playing around and I opened up the CD file (one u u se to install BF2).
I wouldn't see an uninstall option there, I click on advanced options and there she is.
It allowed me to uninstall it off the computer using the CD. So now its gone, going to do that clean and install again.

What do you mean by sweep the register?
1. Open My Documents.
2. Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.

To delete the game files (in the default location):

1. Open My Computer.
2. Open the C drive.
3. Open the Program Files folder.
4. Open the EA GAMES folder.
5. Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
6. Close all open windows.
7. Right-click on the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.

To edit the registry and remove Battlefield 2:

1. Click on the Start button.
2. Click on Run.
3. Type regedit in the text field.
4. Click File and then choose Export.
5. Name the file Backup and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
6. Click Save; you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
7. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
8. Click the plus sign next to Software.
9. Click the plus sign next to DICE.
10. Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
11. Click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
12. Right-click and choose Delete on any Battlefield 2 folders.
13. Click the plus sign next to Microsoft.
14. Click the plus sign next to Windows.
15. Click the plus sign next to CurrentVersion.
16. Click the plus sign next to Uninstall.
17. Right-click on the key named {04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B} and choose Delete.
18. A Confirm Key Delete window will appear, choose Yes.
19. Close the WindowsRegistry Editor.

do all this then re-install

Yeah - sorry for not being more precise!

When you go through the register you don't need to uninstall the game, you just delete all folders with the game in it, and then go through the registry.

The last part is to ensure that your CD doesn't detect the game.. (It has happened to me, and I was able to correct it)

But I'm glad to see you found a solution anyway - hope it works and that you can once again join this... erm.. wonderful game!

Happy Gaming!!!

Logging in to the account server sometimes takes longer but I think it was because of the account server rather than on your side. I remember when there was some problem with the account server but someone on a forum managed to get in by simply waiting, which worked for me as well. I sat down and watched telly with one eye at the comp and several minutes later I got in.

I'm not sure but if you reinstall BF2, remember to update punkbuster as well afterwards, seems that's the most common reason for the "modified content" accusation.
