Play as sniper. I know it's obvious but I was surprised at just how well this works... read on.
I started practicing sniping primarily to try to get on a par with a friend who introduced me to the game, so we could go as a two-man sniping squad. He's the best FPS sniper I know personally and his stats show something of how skilled he is:
Global accuracy 29.75%, K/D Ratio 1.01.
But his sniper-rifle stats are a better indicator; he doesn't play that much so he only has a little over a thousand kills with a scope but his accuracy is 47.08%. I've seen him get headshots from South Base to North Base on Wake (checked the distance, 428m - good stuff by any standard it would appear) and in the same game hit moving targets diagonally across the bay in (I ranged this using the squad-leader map thing, 320m) and it's his willingness to attempt shots like this that mean his scores aren't quite as high as they might be, but he'll regularly nail guys running at 100m+ with the L96.
Anyway, since I started my campaign I've increased by global accuracy noticeably in less than two weeks. I'm only an okay player, better than a lot of grunts but nothing special as my stats show, although like many of us I have good days (like last night, more on that below). My global accuracy is now 18.72%, up from around 17.3/17.4. But I wanted to get a concrete idea of what the last fortnight concentrating on the sniper kit had done to improve my skill with the scope, minus all my early noobage, bullet-spraying with the PKM and lack of knowledge of bullet drop to drag it down. So, I logged in to my other account, which had a whopping 11 points, and had a good innings last night.
Me:
Global accuracy 18.72%, K/D Ratio 0.88 and accuracy with the sniper rifle of 38.37% (up from 36.something I think).
The other me:
Global accuracy 40.43%, K/D Ratio 1.01. sniper-rifle accuracy 50.62%.
So if your score is in the low teens to 20s you can make some serious headway in your accuracy stat over a fairly short time if you're interested and you're average or better. I'd recommend trying to play sniper religiously throughout the game to keep in the right mindset, I think this helps.
Now you could go a lot further than I have and play as a dedicated stand-off sniper - this type of play just doesn't suit my character, I don't like waiting around for kills so I cap flags, drop claymores to defend them and generally try to stay useful to the developing situation so I'll switch kits if the need arises but this puts you more in harm's way and you pay the penalty trying to shoot under automatic fire if your reflexes aren't excellent. But if you're more disciplined, play sneaky (hide, shoot, move) and concentrate on the surer shots, it'll make even more difference faster, although it takes better aim since you'll generally be shooting over much longer distances plus your score won't benefit as much from the easy kills via the claymores (plus an extra point for flag defence if placed carefully).
