I'm playing with some other kit than sniper and I'm running around. I see sniper at medium/high range. He doesn't see me. I start to shoot him with little bursts. Then he notices me and turns around (he's standing) and he aims for like 1 seconds and shoots me to the head from stand with the second sniper unlock! I get so mad about this, because if I want to shoot somebody to head (with sniper), I first must go to prone and then wait for a little and then shoot so I can get a headshot. So how is this possible that other guys get headshot from standing and crouch and they don't have to wait but I do have to? Or is this because my computer is fucking lagging piece of shit? I can hardly even play this game because I got 512 Mb RAM and GeForce 6600.

The problem is simple and it doens't have to do with your Video card, Computer or lag. The reason is that you need more skill to snipe, that's all.

Its because of your computer and mouse (though its still better than mine). I've only got a crap geforce 5200 (128Mb). I can only play sniper on certain maps effectively. Ones that don't have a lot of buildings or smoke. Wake Island is about the best. If I try and play sniper in the centre of a city map I just lag when on zoom and have the same problem you talk about.

You might also want to run some internet quality tests, e.g. testing for choke and packet loss, not just latency. I've found that I can have a great latency to most servers, but my ISP's packet loss just destroys my ability to snipe quickly - what I see in game isn't where stuff quite is at that time, and often I have to click twice for stuff to register. Latency compensation didn't really help me as in the other thread. I stick to standard rifles and MG's as well as vehicles because they aren't so dependant on head position or timing like the sniper rifle is.

I agree though it can be quite frusterating, because whenever I take sniper, my hardware is fine, but my connection just cripples my ability to take those fast shots. It pisses me off to no end

In regards to clicking twice to have stuff register. It's especially annoying when switching weapons. Like when I just took out a tank and want to change back to the submachine gun to take out a nearby enemy, I hit the number three button but nothing happens so I hit it again but then it switches to single fire mode when it finally switches. It's so annoying. I've died so many times because of this. It's mainly because of lag for me though.

The problem is the deviation on all the other primary weapons. All the sniper rifles have a tiny deviation when zoomed mod (0.005 or 0.01), meaning that where you aim is exactly where the bullet goes. All the other guns have massive deviations when zoomed compared to this (the next best are the pistols at 0.5 per shot, the others are even worse), so just because you aim correctly at your target, your bullets have a much lower chance to hit where you put them.

Don't even try to go head to head at long range with a sniper, except maybe with a red-dot scope, as you can hit often enough to distract them, otherwise you are just hoping for a lucky shot, now matter how good you are.

All the info is from the BF2S Wiki weapons:comparison page on this site.

Cheers, Moggle.

Things to note.

1. Don't use the mouse button to fire. Clicking the mouse button to fire a sniper rifle can move the mouse a hair, which throws off the shot. Use an alternate fire key (I use the "Y" key) to fire and the mouse to aim.

2. If I'm not mistaken, you get no accuracy boost with the sniper rifle by being prone, so if the situation calls for it, stand up.

Believe me increase your RAM and half the problem is solved for you... I played with 512 mb RAM till november last year and I was the worst sniper. And now with 2 gigs my sniping is doing much better.

Yup,right on the money!
I think I have the weirdest mouse settings for a sniper,my mouse is absolutely fast,no 400 dpi-setting so you can aim even with suffering from Parkinson, that's why I use the keyboard for long distance shots where you aim at single pixels, for easy stuff it's still the mouse button.

Correct. Same applies to engineer. The only gun that can go toe-to-toe with snipers in the G36E. A burst or 3 when proned and zoomed is normally sufficient. If you can, just keep moving. Only exceptional snipers can take out moving enemies, and you can get close in where he's at a disadvantage.

here is the best tactic for sniping. shoot them in the chest, take out your pistol, fire an entire clip into them and you are garunteed a kill, do this until you feel good enough to fire a shot and remove their brain from their skull

also, practice on single player on hardest setting. The bots move fast and fire back. good practice.

No. Unless you have a processor in the -1.5ghz equivalent range (ie, less in performance than a 1.5ghz Pentium), then your computer shouldn't have a great deal of trouble with BF2. I used to play on a machine with 512mb RAM and a GeForce 6600 myself, so.

Then again, if you have old/mismatched/slow memory sticks, then yes, your computer is a lagging piece of shit.

zig zaging effectively nerfs 99.9% of all snipers. Just make sure to vary the lengths of your movements, so he can't calculate a future position.

You should do wat i used to do before i bought my video card.  all setting on low don't worry about the pixels.  change your computer screen settings to 1072 or whats ever for your screen refresh to 60 hz and bam you gotta a good game.  and don't tkae heads hots unless running away or towards and when i sniper is standing and looking towards you duck hit the prone button and or dolophin dive like crazy that pisses my off when i am sniping

For all you to know, I bought two 1 Gb sticks and it works like a charm. I just have to put all my graphics to low/off (because I got geforce 6600 - it's old graphic card) and I can run around without any lag. And those two sticks also helps in loading times, so you don't have to listen to that annoying music and you can get tank/chopper/plane because all others haven't still loaded their game because they got smaller ram.

I aim only for head because if I don't kill them with first shot they get scared and look for medic and if you don't kill another sniper with first shot... well your gonna die. And it's so funny when I see somebody and wait him for to stop or prone and then it's boom headshot, after that I can hear him thinking "Wish I didn't go prone..."

Sometimes it's as simple as working on your hand to eye co-ordination. I am quite capable of getting a headshot from standing to prone, or just standing vs a prone sniper in a matter of a second or less. Just practice really!

If you have <30fps steady, don't play the sniper kit. In fact, don't play the game at all unless you're willing to accept that people with better rigs than you will have a major advantage. The sniper kit really depends on steady FPS and a steady hand.

However, if you have time to aim a shot with another kit, aim for the head while crouching/prone and zoomed in. Generally, all guns are accurate for at least their first shot, and will kill a sniper. If you miss and the sniper sees you, move! It's much harder to hit a target who's bobbing around randomly than someone standing still emptying their clip at me.

lay down and aim for the head (high on the head)  also, the m24 is better than those 2 semi auto. sniper rifles.  try being on usmc.

I think there should be a greater deviation when standing or kneeling. That way it would get rid of the popup snipers, ie. the ones who use the flaw in the game of quickly standing, firing and then going prone.
