Mouse VS Joystick.

I don't have a joystick, I can fly a chopper and jet pretty decent. But I can't shake a good pilot for anything in my life. I use a mouse to fly, the chopper isn't that bad, only when I can't pull up fast enough and crash into a mountain.

My question is for the ace pilots out there, I know this has been posted in the past but I'd like to see new opinions and I know new hardware comes out all the time.

What is the joystick you use and how do you have it set up? I think I am going to get a keyboard on the way home from work today and work on my pilot skills. Thanks.

keyboards and mouse is how i go i find practice with the mouse and keyboard can make you better than any nub with a joystick my only problem now really is lagg and trees........

from what I've heared* gamepads are the best for choppers.

I use my new Logitech Extreme 3d Pro joystick (or whatever its called) for flying a jet now. Makes it much easyer to fly since the handel twists. I'm practicing using it with a helicopter-a joystick makes it much easyer to hover in the blackhawk or matain a diameter in the attack helicopters. Using a mouse with a jet is not recommended because you cannot turn at a very tight radius. If your going to use the keyboard, use the arrow keys to guide your plane.

The mouse is very good for flying with a chopper. I recommend it for new players. If you get good with a joystick, use it instead. To sum it up...

Jet - Joystick highly recommended, but if your going to use the keyboard use the arrow keys NOT the mouse.

Attack Helicopter - Mouse or joystick is highly recommended. If you don't have a joystick that has a twist handle USE THE MOUSE! If you really want to use the arrow keys you can, but it isn't very easy to control the helicopter that way.

Transport Helicopter - Joystick is HIGHLY recommended because these choppers aren't as sensitive and are easyer to control. With a throttle on the joystick you can easily hover 500 ft above an enemy base while your squad spawns on you.

These of course are my recommendations. You may decide to follow them or not.

Not to brag im 570 in the world for chopper piloting/gunning beeing a decent pilot I suggest you get, saitek cyborg evo
keyboard + mouse is really no good for flying It's been settled in Desert Combat days.
As far as configuration goes....
Simple x y z axis = stick
Buttons :
up right = flares
trigger = rockets
HAT = Views (back must be viewed constantly)
as far as throttle goes just use the lower throttle control on joy most of the joys have throttle somewhere on the side

ya they are the best. i am a former gampad user for infintry and everything esle. no a dedicated mouse and keyboard user. but the game pad is the best for the choppers. it gives you alot of conrol and levels you out pretty well.

hey there maybe this will help you. i bought a saitek st90 [they are dead cheap] and it is great, it has helped me out so much. joysticks take a bit of getting used too if you havent used on before but they are brilliant once you get the hang of it.

I use a keyboard an mouse for the choppers.....and I do well......well enough anyway.

I definitely use a joystick for the jets though. Gotta have it for those hard turns......and I've set up my middle hat switch to change between forward and rear view, because in the jet, this is a "must have." In fact.....if I'm hunting other jets......I spend more time in rear view than forward looking, because I am generally accelerating upward into the sky (most pilots seem to avoid flying really high for some reason.......the good ones know to gain some altitude). Looking behind me.....I can see the enemy jet if he flys by, but he can't see me cause I'm 200 feet higher then him. Then.......I roll the jet so I'm upside down, and pull the stick back, and make a complete 180 so I'm right on his ass. Never knows where the hell I came from........unless he's smart.......and let's face it, most people are not.

I got a saitek cyborg evo joystick and I love it for flying jets. Though with helicopters I find it much harder to use the joystick plus when im tv guideing solo its hard to reach for the F1, F2 keys from the joystick. I LOVE THE HELICOPTER>................

ive been flying scince BF1942 with a joystick and using the choppers withjoystick in DC
imo its the only way to fly great

Joystick is the best for flying jets hands down, but mouse and KB performs great for choppers too; and it is easier to learn for choppers than joystick.

Joystick performs just as well (better) in my opinion for choppers, but the learning curve is pretty steep and the joystick has got to be twist and of good quality which not many users have.
