There is so much to cover but here it goes .

BF2 - I haven't played this game in months but as I look back and keep up on the bitches and gripes on these forums there are a few changes to the over all design of the game that I think would make a better game .

I'll start at the end . Patches , patches and more patches . I always thought a patch was only to fix bugs and "tweak" things to make the game better . IMHO this is not the case anymore . The patches changed the scope of the battle and game drastically . Let me get this off my chest first . I bought the game and fell in love with it . But with all the changes made I simply didn't like the game any more . I was suprised to see a company cater to all the bitching and griping about this and that . No need to go into specifics really we all know what we did and didn't like about this or that but damn it bought a product and now that product is different then the one I bought . LAME !!!!! I'll just leave it at that .

BF2's design .FLAGS : I'm not so sure I like the flag capturing and tickets loss for base game play . For me there was really no reward in capping a flag because as soon as I leave to snag another flag it gets capped right back . It was a never ending pain in the ass to be honest .In a nutshell I felt like a was in the game to cap flags and killing the enemy was a secondary objective sometimes .  Then there are cappable flags that render one team useless IE Karkand ( to bad 32 player Karkand is the best level ever and it's screwed because of this ) .
This is unacceptable design . Very frustrating and I can't see why after 3 patches they haven't addressed this at all . I would have . I wish once a flag was captured that was it , it can't be taken back . This would force people to work together more and pick proper classes rather then having 7 snipers syndrome .

I wish the game was more linear then open outdoors constantly looking over your shoulder and hoping that arty dosen't kill you after finding that perfect sniper spot . I like the scrimage line / objectives gameplay rather then capping flags as a way to show whos winning a battle . Only one game has ever done this and that is ET Enemy Territory . Yeah , I know it's old , busted and cheesey but I can still day dream about the intense feeling of what I did to get the bridge repaired under heavy fire to get the tank across . Not one BF2 battle ever gave me a feeling of accomplishment like ET did , and that was just over fixing a bridge - you later go on to blow up the fule dump and win the game . The thing I like about it is that everyone was on the same objective , not all spread out and doing their own thing or just lonewolfing it . And that is by design . Everyone had a job and did it to reach a final goal . The reward was blowing up the other teams stuff right in thier backyard and it was an in your face win - very rewarding . Then you even had 30 seconds to talk shit and rub it in the enemies face lol .

Tickets  : I wish the tickets were applied to the aircraft and vehicles to be honest . Infantry should be infanant . Here is what I think would be better .
At the start of the round the commander has the abaility to choose how the tickets of the Aircraft and vehicles should be released . He can choose A) free for all -where all aircraft and vehicles spawn regularly . Or B) Select what get released in a spawn que . This way the commander has control on saving a few jets or such for one last push or wants to save them for what ever occasion like defense  . When a vehicle is ready and released a call is put over the radio .

Only a few jets and such for each team . The aim would be to have like 3-4 jets per game ( tanks to ). I'm sure all the jet whores are not going to like this but bear with me . I don't mind jets in the game and I don't mind dealing with tem but the whole round is just annoying to me . The aim for this design change would be this . The game would begin and hopefully around half way through the battle all the aircraft are out and all of the tanks and such are out and the last half of the game would be a brutal infantry battle , something we all love . Imagine the other team was kicking your ass the whole level and now they are advancing on the final goal ( say to blow up a building or something ) and your commander was smart enough to save a few tanks ?

Un-locks : I think the un-locks in this game are very dissapointing . For the most part they are worse then the weapon you start off with so why even bother to take the time and effort to un-lock anything ? I wish the un-locks were more worth it . I also wish the unlocks were based per round . Once you have everything un-locked that's the end of it , nothing to look foward to . Much like the awards system . Once again ET had a great un-lock system based per game . Every game you had to kick some ass to get un-locks and they made you more deadly . They actually did something for you rather then a step back . Like akimbo pistols , the ability to hold your breath longer and keep a sniper rifle steady , the ability to sprint further . That's what kept me playing the game for years even though it was out dated . The game play is way addictive based on the fact that you had to gain these up grades per game .

Commander's stuff : I don't the scan and radar option . I wsh this was up to Engineers . They could have a set of binos that lights up the enemy on radar for everyone . Or make a new class SCOUT that is responcible for observation and calling in targets . Tribes , the first game back in the 90's had a great line of sight radar system that could be deployed on the ground and spot heat signatures and let you know something was around .  Perhaps something like that could be used . Having the commander do it is kind of cheesey .

Artillery is lame IMHO as well . Can't get more cheesier then just point and click and bam everyone is dead .
Artillery dosen't even come close to working like that . I wish one shell would hit , a 2-3 wait and them 10 bombs come down in a fire for effect method . At least you get some sort of warning and chance to find cover . As it is now it's just annoying and cheap if you will and not realistic at all .

Awards and stats : Means nothing to me , not even bragging rights . It all boils down to killing the guy on the hill . The only thing stats wise that has any relevance is the kill/death ratio witch shows how good you are at killing the guy on the hill before he kills you . All other stats and awards are just fluff . I think I've olny cared to look at another persons stats like twice because it's in thier cig .

Wrap up : Well that's pretty much all the stuff I feel that is flawed and or annoying . I would like you guys to discuss other alternative game design structures or changes to this game to make it better . And feel free to to bash or agree with my ideas for a better game . Peace .

I'm OK with the game for the most part.  Here's my personal gripes.

But I do have one artillery gripe.  QUIT WARNING THE ENEMY THAT IT'S INCOMING!!!!
I understand a warning to your own people, but come on.  Everytime they hear "Artillery, your position"
I watch everyone in the area back out, see the artillery hit nothing, and they all rush back in.

Just leave it as a whistle as it's coming in.

Secondary Commander Gripe.
You have to task a squad to fix, defend, etc.
It might be a little better if you could just put out a "all players on your side" message, repair needed, or Attack this Position it's Open, Empty, Abandoned, etc. without having to task a squad to it.  I've played commander multiple times and there will be flags with nobody around for miles, and a group sitting on a recently capped flag and they don't respond to the command even with a supply crate waiting and a UAV up in the air.  I've never heard anyone using in game VOIP ever.  I've seen crews running on TS, X, or Vent.  Then everyone bitches when you don't give them artillery or UAV or supplies.  I'm not reading the chat and if I don't hear "Requesting Supply Drop" or the like, I probably won't get it to you in your moment of need.

Third General Gripe.
Find a way to let the commo rose be activated by numbers or be put to a macro without having to use a convoluted out of game process.  I'm tired of getting shot because I'm trying to make a request and I have to dig around for the right request.

I definately like the idea of limiting tanks/jets/helis. It would be more challenging. Unfortunately it will never happen b/c too many base rapers would get beside themselves. But I think limiting jets to 3-4 for each round is an awesome idea.
