This is so you know when there are new posts... you are notified.
when you subscribe to a topic, it lets you know when there is a new post to it. Try subscribing to this one and see.

thx guys. closed. btw, I'd recommend not to subscribe to every topic that is of interest to you, only those you don't check every day anyway. Those e-mail notifications can get nerving...
