Oh yeah, its another battlefield 2142 fueled topic by Sarrk!

Yeah, like the title says, I know how to make BF2142 appealing to us BF2 gamers cost-wise

You know how 2142 is just running a tweaked engine of Bf2?

No? Well now you do, so all this game is, is a mod, DC to '42 if you wish, CS to Half-Life

Anyway, since the game is technicly a mod, why not offer special advantages to people who own a legal copy of BF2? Shouldnt we get some slack, seeing as we bought the engine?

I was thinking along the lines of having EA make some sort of deal that resulted in BF2 players who were going to by 2142, could show proof of purchase of BF2 to the retailer and recieve some sort of discount, as opposed to people who were buying 2142 without having bought BF2?

Yeah? Sounds neat?

Anyway post cristism, praise whatever here, Im just so frickin excited for 2142!

God Help EA's sales if they charge me 50+ dollars (Aus) for 2142

We will pay the same we did for BF2, dosent matter  if 2142 is based on bf2`s engine. Atleast good that they dont make a new one, that is as fucked as bf2 was in the start

I don't understand this sudden whining about 2142 simply because it is running on the same engine as BF2. Video game makers utilize existing game engines all the time because development would simply take WAY too long if each game had its very own exclusive backend.

Take the unreal engine for example... literally hundreds of games have been produced on it, yet no one runs around complaining that they are playing a 'mod' of Unreal Tournament when they purchase Deus Ex, Postal 2 or Rainbow Six.

Welcome to the video game industry, this is how things work. Ultimately you are the consumer, and if you don't like a game for whatever reason simply don't play it.

I'm sure this game will be priced just like any other new title.

Yes, am sure it will be priced like a new title too. The thing is many would expect more if it is to be marketed as a new game. You are right in saying that many games license game engine to make their own title. BUT these licensee knows that in order to sell their game, a re-skinning approach is not enough. Most licensee of game engines makes use of only certain parts (like rendering engine?) and possibly choose to write most of the remaining code. Even then, I suspect most self-respecting developer would tend to modify their renderer to suit their unique needs.

I am not the only one who thinks that BF2142 is too much of a resemblance to BF2 to be a 'new game'.

Of cos things are still not finalised yet and I will hold my comment on its worth. Or whining as you so eloquently put it.

It's a sequel, and will be priced at the same amount as any other game. I'd like to see EA give Bf2 players something though, money off it out of the question, but a free unlock or customisation option. It would be easy enough as it can be applied to all accounts / password combinations using Bf2. Maybe...

I'm excited about the game and i'm sure i'll buy it.

Guys, stop dreaming !
We won´t get it cheaper just because we bought BF2 allready. This is not the way the world spins around. We are not special, we a just a number in EAs finance statistic.
If you buy a car build by company XY and a few years later the come out with a faster, shinier version of the same car, do you get the new one cheaper because you were driving the older one around ? Hell, no !
That´s not how it works...sorry.

What and other software companies wouldn't charge as much as they can? :S

It'll be $50 / £35 as usual, oh and £200+ for a new graphics card to run it on lol.

I'm curious as to what more you could want in a new title. Seriously, the FPS genre of games has been essentially the same game since wolfenstein 3d. Sure the graphics have updated, but the core of the gameplay is still more or less the same.

2142 has updated the refraction 3 engine, introduced new gameplay modes, created new models and sounds throughout the game, and included a new stats and upgrade system, and the game is still in pre-alpha... This game is already much more than simply 're-skinning' bf2 and it is still really early in the development cycle.

What else can you expect them to change?

Personally I like not waiting multiple years between sequels in a franchise. In my opinion 2142 will be a nice little bridge to keep me busy until BF3 comes out.

I'm also curious about your opinion of Battlefield Vietnam. Do you also think that shouldn't count as a legitimate game in the Battlefield franchise?

For some reason BF21462 (or whatever) does not appeal to me at all. It looks like a cheap mod and knowing EA they are definitely going to shaft you for $50.

There is nothing innovative about the game.

No matter how much they offer that game, I will not be purchasing it.  All it is is UT or Quake with solders.  Throw in some futuristic vehicles and ding ding, you have BF2142.

EA is making this game, do not forget that. There is no way you will get any deal on this for owning bf2. They are not some small company that cares about the player base. They just want more bling

I'll go 2 weeks without drinking or smoking if they do give a deal to bf2 owners. Mark my words, there will be no such deal
