Do you have to be playing on the computer you are signed in on to be seen as online in that game?

Like... say I am signed in on my computer and I play at my friends house...

I'm not sure, but I don't think it's possible.

xfire sees the game running on your computer and not your BF2 account being used, I might be wrong though

no, youre right. if youre running xfire on one pc and playing on another it will not see you as playing a game.

xFire detects the games .exe. It is entirely local.

You can get xfire to say you're playing "Calculator" or "MS Word" by adding an entry for the exe in xfires config files. Not too teribly hard. Just copy the code format, there's a tut. for it somewhere.

You ever wonder why you can autologin by modifying the shortcut, or join a server automatically? Because the exe can store or be given info about player name and server info.

That same shortcut modifying method is the same why xFire launches the game.

So in short, no.
