After each firefight. if its 1 person and I still have 20-25 bullets left I still reload, bad habbit but it becomes handy sometimes.

i wish it was done like CS:s, where you have a certain # of bullets and when you reload it just adds those to your clip to make it full....but, as thats off-topic (kinda), i usually reload around 15, except when i can see theres a crapload of people coming my way on a UAV....
That is highyl unrealistic though nice. Take the buleets out of the old clip and dropn them in your pocket? lol.
True, but you should be able to cycle through clips until they are all empty...SOCOM style.

After every firefight.  whether there are 29 bullets still left.  I had times where I killed people,  and I have only one round in the magazine.

Cause ammo is free.....you can just collect it from the bags on the ground.

I didn't realize the first 10 or so hours of playing BF2 that when you changed a magazine with rounds still in it that they were discarded. I couldn't figure why it seemed I got so few shots out of my sniper rifle...until I realized I was a dumbass (again). I was use to other video games when left over rounds from a mag would be recycled magically.

I'll change mags' when they go red on the rounds meter If i have time to think, or alot of times I'll run it till it goes empty and use the pistol it I still have targets. Usually most of the time I'm dead before I really have to worry about a CQC reload. So it makes it simple.

Depends greatly on the situation, if i'm playing a CQB map like Karkand, Mashtuur or Sharqi then i'll usually reload if i have any less than 20 rounds (unless i have the G3 then its less than 10) However if i'm playing on a wide open map then i'll usually try to conserve my ammo cos the chances are that i'll use more before i die than on a manic map like Karkand.

If i'm a sniper I always conserve every last round from my rifle, i'm usually on my way to a new perch if i'm reloading (unless i'm in a particularly safe spot) so it doesn't really hinder me all that much. I really hate being stuck with just a pistol and having to sneak around till i find a support guy or supply crate so every shot is important.
