whatever.

the fans are a real credit to your sport. there are more deaths amongst football fans directly related to matches and stadiums than casualties of both insurgents and allied forces in Iraq.

and its the most primitive sport ever. kicking a ball into a net. my dog can do that.

p.s. i dont give a shit about negative karma. go ahead. make YOUR day. -1 me.

My cat could also swing a piece of wood and hit a ball. My budgie can throw a ball through a hoop.  Dont make out like Soccor/Football is the only sport that animals could emulate.

Edit: On a side note I am aussie and we Aussies dont folliow soccer/football as fanatically as the Brits and Europeans do so I do not agree that Football is the greatest ever sport....but it certainly is fun.

Honestly, WTF?  Why this again?

Let the Brits bitch.

Unfortunately we lack the passion the Brits have for Soccer, etc., and cannot grasp why it's offensive to not like the sport.

Our understanding of Soccer is limited to experience - 1) I would guess that 75% of all US kids play organized Soccer but 2) quit before 7th grade because 3) soccer when compared to other popular sports is long and 5) lacks constant scoring and consequently 7) Americans lose interest and then 8) find something else to do so 9) no one plays Soccer or understands the sport here.

I'm talking about attention span here - US tends to have a shorter passion cycle in my opinion.  This applies to sport variations outside of Soccer.  Wrestling is different in the States.  Hockey rinks are smaller to increase scoring.  International basketball courts/rules are different than in the States.  Golf courses have different design traits down to the length of the course.

The attention span thing has also affected Baseball's rules were slightly adjusted to speed the game along while certain rules and ballparks built to increase scoring.  It also impacted basketball - college games have different rules than the NBA - to increase scoring in the pros.

It's a culture difference.  Appreciate it.

I would love the US to have year-round passion about one sport like other countries.  US only has this passion for a finite time - usually influenced by whether we think we have a chance or for certain international competitions.  There's just a lot of different sports to focus on here, so there's not usually a dominant sport - its limited to a few diehard fans when compared to Soccer overseas.

A final note - the most popular spectator sport in the US is NASCAR racing.  I'm not a fan, but I can see why people love it.

Older games often seem less appealing, I don't know though I'm very curious about rugby.

Nascar is good for naps unless a wreck happens or its the last few laps,
I would say that Football is the most popular american sport - Go Cheifs!

Wow, finally someone who has put some thought into their reply! Well done Pug. The rest of us are annoyed because the point of this thread was to put down British CULTURAL sports...but make it out like it was a national export not just a sport like billy-kart racing. We, In Australia have, for instance, Gumboot throwing, car-bonnet racing...crap like that. Fun to watch and particpiate in but not particularly popular or marketable.

By the way NASCAR racing. I never got it really (this isnt being derogatory...just a thought......). I like to watch car races where the cars do more than go round and round in an oblong shape....a few right hand bends perhaps?

who cares about sports like caber tosing and all that? im sure they were invented for a bit of fun at the time, and if u think us brits watch caber tosing on tv and it has a big following here its not, its an old game that is kept alive cus of tradition, like all those other games u mention and ridicule, and u forgot the worm tapping thing, also a tradition.... you see us british are proud of our heritage and history even the little things, and they are kept alive for fun. there are tiny traditional sports like that around the world though. The big american sports are just versions of older sports before them anyway, all u did was change the name and a few rules. so picking a few old games, and then trying to say all british sports are shit, i come to the conclusion, you just want to wind up a few british people a bit when they get up in the morning and see this thread .

anyway im off to go do my 8 hour training session, so i can win the World Caber Tossing Champsionship sponsored by ESPN and McDonalds, broadcasting worldwide next weekend....oh wait thats the FIFA World Cup, my bad

OK so back on topic...Why are british sports so shit?

Cricket...have you ever watched a cricket match or tourney...christ it lasts forever and is even more boring than a baseball pitchers duel game.

Rugby...a sport played largely in the US by guys who weren't good enough to play soccer (futball) or big/skilled enough to play football.  Though it's played by more people globally than american football i doubt it has a larger viewer base.

Funny the one Europeon sport that i have an interest in wasn't even mentioned...F1.  Of corse NASCAR would probably kick it's ass too...
ur a noob like all yanks play the games before bagging them as for ur nfl ur guys a bunch of girls wearing all that bloody padding

Alright people, do we need to seperate the forums by country, stfu. If you don't like a country keep it to yourself, because people live there, and like it for *some odd reason *

Hate to tell you mate but this thread STARTED as a country divided thread with the Americans attacking the British (and from them other). We are just evening the score a little because in every thread I see there is some Americans who pay the crap out of other countries becasue all yanks were sadly brought up to believe that their country is the greatest on Earth. Which is clearly wrong.

Edit: Nice lookin chick in your sig btw!

put up an american football player WITHOUT padding against a british rugby player and you have a dead brit.

if american-football players wore no padding, they'd all knock themselves out because THEY ARE BIGGER then europeans.

Umm. That may be so for some European nations but Aussie and British rugby teams have some of the biggest players Ive ever seen.  If you are still in any doubt Google Australian or British rugby league team photos and see for yourself that our league players are just as big, if not bigger than NFL players.

Is this proof that British sports are indeed SHIT or are we missing something?

its obivious the guy knows nothing about about UK sports and where most of the so called U.S.A games came from basell came from cricket / american came from rugby .spend a lil time on google looking at the history of your own sports .i cant believe you made a topic so lame as this just shows how childish you are reacting to another post here.Yanks think they are bigger/better then everyone drives me fucking nuts .Just remember where your country came from .and stfu with the dumb posts if you cant take a bit if ribbing just dont read the shit.but i will not tolerate you are better then us because its so untrue.

All american sports are based on british sports lets see..

american football is based on rugby
baseball is based on cricket.
and no basketball is not an american sport, it was a canadian sport.

all american sports are like mods to british sports, different rules, gameplay but its pretty much based on british sports

Erm, the thing is, all these sports are scottish!!! Don't associate them fools with us normal people from england. Football (the real one, not your crap one) is a truly global sport, as shown by the world cup next week. You lot have the cheek to call your NFL competition, "the world series" bollocks!!! you lot are the only people that play it, it's crap!!! Baseball is only played by you and the japanese, global? I think not. Basketball is you're only global sport, played y real sportsmen. Oh what about golf and cricket, two more global british sports. I rest my case

Someone mentioned that Nascar was the most watched sport in the US, The first Auto race was in France

so what sports have America given to the world, and that is sport created in America by Americans not had some rule changes and given a diferent name.

You have to remember Americans tend to be arrogant because they have power, but tend to be niave because there nation lacks experience.

And wether they like to adminit GB gave them a language and the ideals of democracy and justice for all. and most of their sports.
