Tring out a 19" wide screen to see if I like it...
I've set my start icon to ""D:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900"
(yes it's on the D: drive)

but it starts in a stretched screen and when I check the video settings it's still showing 1280x1024 (my previous res).
In game is also stretched so I think it's running 800x600 and stretching it or something.

Sorry if I don't reply for a few hours, have to go help a friend move.

BF2 does not support wide screen settings or wide screen TV's ( as far as I know and last time I checked was that ) I don't know if that changed with new patch.

Run it in windowed mode? I think that works...

it wont work ... u can run it at 16:9, but just with the max. width of 1280 so the high should be around 768 ... and this looks crappy when the max res of the tft is higher because of the interpolaration

i also tried and had a look at the point of view and with the 16:9 pic of bf2, u see less than in 4:3 ... it sucks so better use ur normal screen

I am thinking of buying a monitor that is 1680x1280. I assumed you just use the standard 1280x1024 mode and it fits to screen or has black bars in a windowed mode? The only reason I want this over my 19" 1280x1024 is because my ATI HDTV wonder is begging my to buy a bigger monitor before football season.

So what are all the guys with the dell 24" wide screens doing????

I can't believe the game doesn't support anything better.
I thought there were guys running their res at 1600x1200, and the dell 24" guys running 1920x1200.

if it can't be done, what a let down.

It works!
I got a 20,4" Widescreen TFT running at 1680x1050.
But u wont have any advantage, cause bf2 doesnt expand the viewable area to the sides,
it cuts off the top and the bottom.
compared to someone using a 4/3 monitor, u'll see less.
i know it sucks

i can post a screenie, if u like!

I bought the Viewsonic 1680x1050 monitor. I have set the +szy and +szx, but how do you know if it is doing anything? I had it set to 1280x1024 previously and it seems to look the same with the command line changes. I guess BF2 is set to have a maximum image size of 1280x1024 and anything above that is just stretched. Its too bad that BF2 cannot allow you to increase your FOV with bigger monitors and higher wide screen resolutions. I guess they dont want people to be able to buy an in game advantage, via hardware.

You should know just by looking at it if its working right. I'm using a Sceptre x20g (1680x1050) and it looks horrid in any other rez except the native one.

Your options in BF will still show whatver you have it previously set to, however, this will no longer be your resolution.

Make sure you apply the +szy thing to the desktop shortcut, and always start the game from there.

I've heard of this not working for some people, but its always worked for me. You can always try here:

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/

It definatly is about time for developers to start including widescreen support in theese games. Its proven that widescreen is here to stay.

I copied the command line from the first post to a new shortcut and changed the numbers to 1680 and 1050. I still dont get black bars on the top and bottom like people say. When I open the console in game the text size does look the same as my desktop. It may be in the higher mode, but the picture looks stretched and the text is huge.

HUD is streched in Widescreen, but 3D is pure Widescreen with the right aspect ratio.
there are NO black bars at the top and bottom, who said?

I can run BF2 on 1920x1200 widescreen on my 24" Dell

Just add to the shortcut  +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200
It's true that the HUD is a bit streched, but the rest looks fine.

Thanks LT,
I think I'll just have to run it 1024x768 stretched.  I've tried every combo I can think of to change the res to 1440x900 and it crashes to desktop as soon as it trys to load.  I know it's not my system, I'm using a 7800GT and funny thing is I started Civ 4 and as soon as I went into video settngs 1440x900 popped up.... that's scarry since CIV was basically a beta when it was released.

I like using a widescreen, its really sad bf2 does not support real widescreen with more viewable area at the sides of the screen, would be awesome... and unfair :

I got it working ok.
Everything is stretched (inc the HUD) apart from the actual game.
try this...
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widesreen 1+szx 1440 +szy 900

makes sure whatever .exe you set it too that it's the one you start the game with. otherwise it will look fucked up
