Ok, couple of days ago I was playing BF 2, and for some strange reason something on my desktop pops up, I attempt to ALT+tab and find out whats going on, but nothing happens. I then attempt to return to my game, and find that everything is missing, my mini-map, my weapons selections, EVERYTHING except my character and his weapon are showing up on the screen. I could still shoot and what-not but I had lost everything but the basics. Today I was playing on a 24/7 Kubra map, when some of the effects and textures wouldnt load properly, I had the chopper roaters were a huge black square, the supply drop box had no texture to it, etc. I ATL+Tab'ed again, and found myself in the same situation as before. I had alrdy wiped my computer's HD when this first occured, thinking it was a programing glitch of some sort, but im beginning to think something gone wrong with my video card. Does anyone have any suggestions for courses of Action? (running an ATI Mobility Radeon X600)
Try getting rid of pop ups spyware first
Then reinstall drivers
Then BF2
If all else fails you could try to reinstall windows
Somtimes spyware and whatnot can really mess things up.
Also have you cleaned inside your computer? Dirt and stuff can build up causing things to overheat.

well, seeing as how I have a laptop, cleaning the inside of my computer could be troublesome....
This happened to me the first time, and I sorta just wiped my HD and started over, seeing as how there wasnt much to worry about as Geek Squad had just wiped it two weeks Prior

Laptops are crap for gaming, unless you spend over 5K on them, get a decent desktop PC if you wanna game.
Wow that really sucks, sounds like what happend to me in Halo...Noob1ett wrote:

my laptop, up untill 1.3, has supported BF 2 perfectly, my system requirememnets are just fine to run the game, and I still have alot left over...
1 G of RAM
256 mb ATI Radeon x600
2.4 GHZ AMD 64 3700+ Processor

I've also had the huge black rotors and black patches in the landscape, only a dozen times in 300 hrs(seems to happen more in single player) but annoying all the same i always figured it was because my graphics card only has 64 meg now i can see that isn't the case. I'm also running on a laptop and can get a good frame rate with settings at low to medium. My only suggestion would be to clear your cache occasionally...Noob1ett wrote:

@Noob1ett
Looking at the speed of your 3700 have you overclocked it cos i think the default speed for that cpu is 2200. BF2 is very touchy sometimes about overclocking. Just a thought. Also as sundiver says try clearing the cache and letting the game redetect the graphics.

well, the 1st time I had this problem, me being very ignornant of the problem, just simply re-started my comp, this sent one of my ATI drivers into an infinity loop, causing windows to shutdown to protect itself. I didnt think to go SAFE mode, but I did the second time. Im just afraid my computer's GFX card is going to die on me, and I would like for that to not happen.....
Another thing with a laptop is heat. Make sure your not accidentally covering the vents I've had a shutdown a couple of times because of overheating.Don't worry about the graphics card too much as its a lot better than mine..
