Alright I guess my first post didn't get the message through.  I'm getting really upset now b/c I really can't play at all.  Here is what I've done so far again and again and again..

Reformated and Cleanedsweeped my whole computer...twice..

Reinstalled Bf2 5 times....everything is fine games and all without the patch..

Install any patch incremental or full and hope it will install successful...and so far I get 50/50 sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't..My only problem is whenever it does get done installing successfuly when I try  or joining a singleplayer or a multiplayer it crashes at 47 or 50%.  If anyone knows how to get this working I would GREATLY appreciate it.  Oh and yes it worked before with the 1.3 patch until my dumbass self decided to cleansweep my computer now I can't even get Bf2 to work.  So yes if anyone is wondering yes it does worked before just now it wont..One more thing I've tried these methods

1)deleting the bf2 folder in My Documents
2)Removing Movies
3)Inputing installation key in the bf2_code.exe in the support folder of mods located in the bf2 folder.  Then patching.
4)updating software for video and sound hardware.

Tnx for the help in advance.

I had the same problem, and it turned out one of sticks of ram went gay. In other words it only detected one.

Try manually updating Punk Buster.  If you want to test your RAM, look for a free RAM test online.  You will make a boot floppy to boot to, and then run the test for a bit and see if it fails.  Not sure why bad RAM will cause the crash though after the patch.

Try this for a RAM test.  It's from Micro$oft so you know it's ok!

After I downloaded AF & installed I haven't had a ctd / or a connection problem, might just be with vanilla though & I still have alot of testing to do.
Before this I was crashing about 50% of the time so I think your fine , its just the patch.

Hey - Do you have a dual core processor or a single core?

I'm on a Dual, and if I don't use Imagecfg to force affinity, I'll crash more often than not.

If you have a single-core chip, this isn't your issue - and I concur with the memory issue - could also be video memory, but get memtest running first to rule out your onboard RAM first.

Good luck.

edit:

I just reread your specs, you did mention you have a 64bit chip.  most likely dual core.  Go here:

http://www.robpol86.com/Pages/imagecfg.php

follow the instructions for installation

here is the command to force affinity for BF2:

imagecfg -a 0x1 c:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe

I had to re-apply this after I installed 1.3 (it went back to using both cores) and I tell ya, its painfully obvious - I would crash after every game - maybe two.  Couldn't go back into BF2 without rebooting.

I've noticed that without this, I would crash - especially when I got a faster video card - and more often on faster servers (lower pings).  Note: Imagecfg doesn't modify your bf2.exe so punkbuster doesn't care, I believe its simply a registry patch and limited to the program you specify.

Once again, good luck

No no no I see were your coming from but honestly thats not my problem my problem is not a ingame or join game or random crash.  Its a fix crash that happens when I loading onto a server.  When loading percentage hits 47% to 50% bf2 shut downs aka. crashes to the desktop.  And deadjim it didn't work which probably means that its not a duel core.  But tnx anyways.  There just has to be a way b/c it worked just fine with the 1.3 patch before I decided to reformmate my computer.  And by reformmate it means clean sweep EVERYTHING off the computer.  And so there has to be a reason why this is happening.  B/c it has worked before.

I have used that program.  After you download it to your desktop, double click it to execute it.  It will prompt you to insert a floppy disk to make a boot disk.  Let us know if you are unsure what that is.  After it is complete, reboot the computer and go into the BIOS.  Make sure your boot order is floppy first, then hard drive.  Exit the BIOS and let the computer boot to the floppy, if it goes to your normal windows, the boot order is not set.  If it goes to an odd looking program, it is the memory test running.  Let me know if you get that far.  If you need more help, pm me.

I would try putting the GIG of RAM in the other slot, for some reason which has slipped my mind, it works.
Not always though, oh and it is important, that you install all the patches in the correct order, or just re-install BF2 then install 1.3 FULL.

Do me a favor, it will consume most likely 5 minutes of the rest of your life

Launch BF2

At the account logon page: Hit <Ctrl><Alt><Delete>

Select Task manager
Switch to the Processes tab
Find the process BF2.exe, Right-Click it
Select 'Set Affinity...'
clear the checkbox on CPU 1
Close task manager

Switch back to the already running BF2 app and give it a shot

This will rule out the Affinity problem.  For the record, after I reinstalled my OS a few months back, affinity was a huge problem with my system - moreso than before the crash.  Most likely due to the fact that after I re-installed, i had less background clutter running (realsheduler, Quicktime, various addons, you name it).

Worst case scenario: You'll still crash.  It will be a memory issue I'm sure
Best case scenario: You won't crash

not bad for a 5 minute experiment.

This advice is backed by 25 practical years of geekdome...yes, I had a Commodore ViC 20.

If it's crashing while you joining server here is the fix

Problem - Crash to Desktop on Joining a online Server.
Cause - No CDKEY in Registry / Uninstalling BF1942 on a system that has BF2 on it.
Fix - If you have the Uninstalling BF1942 issue, skip this bit and read the part below.
Use battlefield2_code.exe to re-enter your CDKEY, this can be located in the support folder of where you installed battlefield 2 on your Hard-Drive.
After re-entering your CDKEY you must then reapply the latest patch in order for it to be encrypted into the registry.
This Program can also be used. ftp://ftp.ea-europe.com/UK_Support/EAGA … yCheck.exe

If you have the Uninstalling BF1942 issue, read on from here.

You must remove BF2 manually and reinstall it. Here's how: (modified slightly from EA's instructions to preserve settings/config):

Save your settings/configs:
* Open My Documents, rename "Battlefield 2" folder to "Battlefield 2 previous"

Delete the game files:
* Find your installation of Battlefield 2 (default: c:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2) and delete it.

Remove registry entries:
1. Click on the Start button.
2. Click on Run.
3. Type regedit in the text field.
4. Click File and then choose Export.
5. Name the file Backup and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
6. Click Save; you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
7. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
8. Click the plus sign next to Software.
9. Click the plus sign next to DICE.
10. Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
11. Click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
12. Right-click and choose Delete on any Battlefield 2 folders.
13. Click the plus sign next to Microsoft.
14. Click the plus sign next to Windows.
15. Click the plus sign next to CurrentVersion.
16. Click the plus sign next to Uninstall.
17. Right-click on the key named {04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B} and choose Delete.
18. A Confirm Key Delete window will appear, choose Yes.
19. Close the WindowsRegistry Editor.

Battlefield 2 is now completely removed from your system.

Re-installation:
1. Reinstall Battlefield 2
2. Apply latest patch
3. Open My Documents, Rename "Battlefield 2" folder to "Battlefield 2 old" (this is the freshly installed settings directory which you may want to keep just in case).
4. Rename "Battlefield 2 previous" (your settings before BF2 stopped working) to "Battlefield 2"

That should fix your problem

Peace Boris

Deadjim this is all I found when right clicking bf2.exe in the process page.
-end process
