I'm selling my current rig that I built my self and I am looking for a good laptop, Anything SLI or with a 19" screen, so far I think the Alienware mALX is the most power for the smallest amount of cash, (still a lot) What does anyone think of this company Cyber Power PC and that laptop, it doesn't have the 7900's like the Alienware, but will that make a huge difference? And will it crap out on me? I've never heard of the company so it seems a little sketchy.  So, let me know whats out there and whats the best..

I haven't heard of that PC Co. either, cant give you an answer for that. However, I enlisted my local PC repair shop for some research on desktop replacements and all they use are these guys, http://www.sagernotebook.com . They actually had this laptop chassis about 6 weeks before Alienware launched their 19". I know the 7800GTX will be able to put everything on high settings with no lag, so good luck with shopping man.

EDIT: Wow just noticed your in Trophy Club! Here is some contact info for these guys. I highly recommend you make a trip to go talk to these guys!

7900gt runs better than 7800gtx. and it makes ur battery run longer since its more energy efficient

Is that so cyborg? That laptop Teflon posted looks awfully nice, and quite a bit cheaper than the alienware, and it matches the processor and all that important stuff, I would for sure get the 2 gigs of ram, and probably the 100 gig HD. Im probably not gooing to be far from a wall with this laptop though, so battery life isn't a huge concern. And having the 7800's is worth 2 large less. Which is probably cost of having alienware written on it.

* Thanks for the info Teflon, nice to see someone so local, haha.

Yeah, but knowing there current success rate, the 7900 will also die a hell of a lot sooner. I'd play it safe right now, and go for the 7800.

Very true, it will save on battery life, and are more efficient (less transistors) but most desktop replacement owners know to keep them plugged in.

EDIT: Check these guys out Mike. Awesome LAN setup, you have to see to believe, too! T1 connection, all machines with 7800 GTs 2 gigs of RAM etc, etc.... http://www.jerratt.com/

7800 dies sooner... 7800gtx needs at least 400 watt psu, 7900gt needs only 350 watt...

but i would suggest u get a pc since its lighter and more cooling headrooms. but if u go w/ laptops i would get a dell. btw dell bought alienware months ago

I figured that, Dell and the Alienware site look a lot alike. The mALX looks good, but holy crap 5 grand?

do you really need a laptop. They cause nothing but trouble. i would stay with a desktop pc.
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

I think that laptops are only useful when they are the ultra-mobile type (at least 6-8h bat. life, 12'' screen, light,...)

completely agree.  there isn't any reason to get a laptop (except for mobile/business purposes etc), especially just to play games on.

Well, I was looking at laptops because I would prefer to build a desktop if I was going to go that route, but I was gonna put it on a credit card, What about prebuilt ones? What do y'all think about Falcon Northwest, or companies of that nature? Are those worth it?

well, the perbuild ones are way more expensive than home build ones, but you get a warranty, tech support and save the time you need to set it up. Performance is probabely similar.

BTW: Stay away from credit cards. They have tremendous interes rates. If you dont have the money, just let it be.

EDIT: just checked Falcon-NW site. The price of an comparable home build is about 2.5x times less.

Not a review on a laptop, but hardocp gave cyberpower a 7/10 score. And that ranks as "substandard" according to their grading scale. You can read the full review here: http://consumer.hardocp.com/article.htm … 9uc3VtZXI=

If you are geeky enough to overclock an opteron 165 or 170 with an DFI nF-4 ultra is a good choice. Also if you can wait 1 Month Intel will relese Core2Duo a much better performance at a low price.

wait until conroe comes out (july 23rd)... a good mobo for conroe now would be the gigabyte P965 6quad thing, its awsome. also for vid cards i would go w/ 1900xt, 2 gb g.skill ddr2 800mhz ram cl4. thats the main set up, tell us ur budget, it would be a lot easier

Im playin with about 2.5 to 3g's

And fwiw, I've been talked out of a laptop, plus it would be fun to build another rig, since I have had such a good time with my first one.

for 3k you can get 2 pcs. I would propose a x1900xt, the posted G.Skill RAM, an ASUS Motherboad (975X or 965 Chipset) and an upcoming Core2duo proc.

Well since I seem to have some budget to play with, I was interested in getting an SLI rig, but my question is would a dual 7900 gt set up be alot better than 1 7950? or is it the same?

Would I be getting more pixel pipelines with 2 cards then I would with just the 1?

well SLI only helps games that are optimised for it (and BF2 is not optimised for it). For price of 2 7900gts you can get a x1900xt, which will perform much better.
