I've seen a few complaints about the servers list in BF2 since patch 1.3 but nobody seems to be explaining the exact nature of the problem and therefore few (if any) solutions are being generated.

My issues:

1) The servers list is a general pain in the ass. Oh wait; it was already a pain in the ass before 1.3

2) Favorites list:
a) If one updates most of the servers vanish from the list. Until BF2 is restarted they don’t come back.
b) Since patch 1.3 the vast majority of my servers show up as red. I can select them but 90% of the time they stay red. The IP is correct in the information field. If I do a manual connect to that IP things work. However, the fact that I can’t see if a server is active is tedious. I like being able to see when somebody drops off a full server so I can join. This is a big problem with popular servers.

3) Since 1.3 it’s taking anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes for my account to login. It used to be nearly instant, at the worst it took 30 seconds. Now I click “login” and go do something else for awhile (ok, I forum whore on another machine).

Is their a solution to either issue outside of reinstalling/repatching BF2?

I did download a “BF2 Autoloader.” Unfortunately it doesn’t want to accept some of the IPs I throw at it. This is sort of moot due to the login issue mentioned in point 3.

For your account log in problems just reinstall and repatch. I did that and it worked fine after that. Favorites list is screwed and I dont know any fix for that.

Tenacious: Every time you log in to your account, you try to reach every server in your favorites (and history). If it can't reach a server it should take up to 2500 miliseconds (as the ping). So the more servers you have in there, the slower you will have your account. Since 1.3 I noticed pings of MILLIONS every now and then in the server list, taking a lot of seconds, even minutes away from your time. Don't know if that happens when you try to log in though. But for every red server he can't reach, it takes 2.5 seconds signing in time.

So instead of totally re-installing, just delete all servers in your favorites and only keep those servers you like. Signing in will only take seconds anymore!

This worked like a charm. It took me awhile to delete all those servers, the list was pretty long and I got impatient.

Thanks again!

Problem - Taking along time to login
Cause - Many
Fix - First of it could be slow internet connection or a problem with the account server. However try this to see if it reduces the login time. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\username*\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\000*, In there find the file called general.con and make a copy of it on your desktop as a backup. Now open the general.con file in my documents with notepad, and delete all server-history and server-filter.
GeneralSettings.setServerFilter ""
GeneralSettings.addServerHistory

If it's your account connecting, all you have to do is delete your profile (c:\my docs...\bf2\) and then setup again.
I went from over a minute to under 5 seconds.

slo5oh, yeah but then you have to remap your keys, audio settings and video settings. Not to mention the sensitivity for each vehicle that you ofcourse don't know anymore.

By just deleting every server in the favorite list, you have the same effect without having to remap your keys etc...

But it takes a while to delete them all, for some reason it often takes a few seconds to select a server but it's worth it.

Tenacious, glad I could help you
