ok im still not getting past the log in screen. i have a brand new comp from the ground up running xp pro sp3 and i have all the current updates for all my other equipment, ie. everythings is up to date people.  when i get to the log in screen, nothing happens.  the game locks up on me here but not my comp.  im also running zone alram suite with both virus and spyware protection and it too is current.  according to ea and gamespy, i have all the necessary ports opened up and the game has full control of whatever it may need from my firewall.  plus, i know for a fact that it has nothing to do with the patch as i get the same problem without updating it.
Please help!!  im starting to have withdrawls as i havent played in about a week and a half.

thanks,

Log in screen.....it freezes after you log in?  Or freezes on the screen where you select your name?  What?

Once in a while it freezes on me after I select my name, it freezes on the "Connecting to Server..." screen and I just watch the little red "2" spin around for hours on end.  This means that I still have my firewall up, and my comp just locked.

My advice:  Make sure all firewalls are down (the Windows firewall is particuraly nasty) and make sure that you are allowing BF2 on all firewalls and other internet blockers.

it freezes after i hit log in.  turning off the firewall is not an option. plus it doesnt help anyways.  i have figured out it has something to do with a file called ~e5.0001 that has something to do with the cd key/verification.  anyone know how to deal with the file?  i was reading about it here http://outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?p=109118#post109118 .
but i am using zone alarm so i dont know how to make it owrk for me.

Me and my friend had this problem. It's really gay. Jsut make a gamespy arcade account, then double click a server in the gamespy lobby. It  can be any server, as it jsut starts the game, and doesn't even try joiing that server. Then log in and it should work. It's annoying and stupid, but it's worth it.
