A question that has been pondering on my mind is: when will BF2 pass its use by date, in other words when will people stop buying it and start buying more 'up to date games?' i recon about 1-2 years, whaty do you think???

Nah, all the players I regulary play with have said they wont be buying 2142. I certainly wont be unless its something really special.

I think the fact that BF2 still sells for the release price of $50 in many stores (yes you can get it for a lot less at some outlets) tells me that it is not going anywhere for a while. How fast the price of a game reduces over time is a good indicator as to 1) The quality of the game and 2) It's longevity

I'm not really interested in playing and playing BF2 until my score is in the 100,000s, as someone said recently once you have all the unlocks promotions lose a bit of their flavour, but I think I will play it at least a few hours a week as long as there are servers out there and the stats are tracked... five, six years easy. New accounts for different kits/goals will help to keep the game fresh (already are for me) and there's always some new meat out there to try yourself against. If there's a major exodus of top players from BF2 with 2142 and other games on the horizon that'll just leave it a little easier for those who continue to play.
Probably another couple of years. Even when 2142 comes out, people will still play BF2 just like people still play 1942 and those mods/exp packs.pippin_death wrote:

Think of how long MOHAA has been goin for, and still is... I dont think Bf2 is such of a classic as MOHAA but it certainly could go on for that long depending on success of 2142, I will personalyl be tryin to 2142 i'm not gonna completely say im not playing it til i've tried it, its stupid to do that u might love it and therefore you would be missing out
