well for most games there is usually a little intro about the conflicts and what started them, but what do you tink was the first map and what was the reason for it?
humankinds hatred for each other started it all... that first guy (or gal) to bash in some other dudes (or dudettes) head for some randomly inconceivable reason started it all... but thats just my uneducated guess
Well, BF2 started when EA contacted DiCE. EA paid DiCE to create the game, and then when it was kind of completed, they shipped the game out to places all over the world for purchase.
Not knowing that it would crash countless computers.
But, I digress....
The original question asked particularly about the maps involved in the game. One theory is the current state of world affairs. A second theory would involve; Just where would people like to fight a war? A third theory being; "I was once in this great little town in (insert country here) and the streets formed some of the best groundpounding spots I have ever seen!!"

Eh if your talking about a 'BF2 storline' or something, then my guess would be that China invades Taiwan and the conflict escalates, not really sure about the middle east. Iran as the sparking point is most probable at the moment anyway =/
