i give credit to the people who shoot at attack choppers, here or there you might get some kills. if the chopper already sees you, why not? its better than doing nothing. its a lot better than the idiot medics who run at you firing their ak101s at you while youre in the tank. i almost dont want to kill them, its like fighting a cripple.

- Why supports shoot attack choppers?
No matter what, shoot at a chopper. Chances are you won't live to use all of your ammunition anyway (unless your acc. is low and you need the whole clip to kill a baddie). What the avergae (And by avg. i mean almost every) bf2 player doesnt realize is that if everybody shot at a chopper when they saw it, it would go down (or retreat for rep's) much faster. People don't ever shoot because it doesnt blow "fast" enough. If you see a chopper, shoot at it, and encourage bystanders to do the same.
we had a whole squad of snipers on the crane on sharqi, everytime one of us saw the heli we would spot it and everyone would open fire at the cockpit. this led to many destroyed choppers and an eventual artillery strike to end our reign of terror
It's worth it when chopper is smokin other than that even if you covered and pilot has dynamic light on high you can see muzzle flash outta your support weapon easy kill I usually just land on them because they tend to prone a lot
this is all priceless and i appreciate the free kills. Seriously, what kinda noob gets taken out by small arms fire.
NO shooting a helo in fire doesnt count...it was gonna blow up anyways...getting sniped out..well i always give the guy props for his aim because 99/100 time it means the snipers death. Im sure people have other opinions but squashing tons so many people kinda makes me lean toward the latter. Btw, whos happy they nerfed the rockets? In vanilla bf2 anyways, they still do crazy damage on sf

I always shoot a machine gun at the odd smoking attack chopper, or generally anything that's smoking. You'll blag a sneaky kill or 2 if your lucky!
Today 09:25:37 -1 Why supports shoot attack choppers? yews it does
Nice, people like this can go die. Fucking faggots.
You know, it's not even the fact I got -1, I could careless. It's the fact that someones that immature..

What the **** is going on over here? From this thread, I have got now three negative karma for some retarded reasons (and they're from the same post, my first post):
Yesterday 19:20:53 -1 Why supports shoot attack choppers? i kill choppers all the time with my pistol
Yesterday 16:08:17 -1 Why supports shoot attack choppers? tooo high woring points,, must give nega karma =p
Yesterday 23:49:25 -1 Why supports shoot attack choppers? idiot
jkohlc and primacord nicely have me +1 karma from both to compensate those two.
Edit: he_who_says_zonk gave me +1, now all negatives are compensated.

The best way to think about it is like this:
Suppose there's a helicopter being attacked by a guy with a SRAW and a guy in a Humvee. Now suppose a PKM-armed soldier joins in. Obviously in the second situation, the helicopter is taking more damage.
There's no way to instant-kill a helicopter except for the TV guided missile, so if you want to take down a helicopter, you want to inflict as much damage as you can, as quickly as you can. (This applies to armour as well.)
So yes, it's worth firing at the helicopter with a PKM, not because the PKM can destroy the helicopter but because even if the PKM does only a few bars of damage, that's a few bars of damage that someone else doesnt have to do, or is doing at the same time, and that helicopter has less time in which they must take out a greater number of targets. You also change the stakes. If a helicopter is firing at regular infantry, they're firing to get kills. If they're firing at something which is firing back, they're firing to stay alive and the more you hit them the more likely they'll break for repairs. (Any pilot who stays in the combat zone with less than half health is suicidal)
Against both helicopters and armour, the key to beating them easily is putting heavier fire onto them than they can handle / than they can respond with. So if I happen to be playing support with a PKM, and I can help teammates damage a helicopter, I will do so.
You can laugh, but not for very long.

I've shot down an attack chopper with a DAO ffs, always worth a shot IMO...
I frequently shoot at attack choppers with pretty much anything even though I know it won't do much damage. My goal is to distract the pilot and gunner, especially when the pilot is already trying to keep track of multiple targets. If I shoot and hide I can protect my teammates without dying. If I do get killed, I'm willing to die if it distracts the chopper from killing my team's armor.
Precisely my attitude. I once went one on one with an attack chopper as a medic. I knew I wouldn't be able to kill him and would probably die myself, but I figured that the longer I kept him occupied, the longer it would be before he continued harassing my teammates. As it turned out, I was able to play cat-and -mose with him for a good 5 minutes before he killed me. In that time, my team took three flags including their helipad. The chopper was shot down soon after, by which time they had only one spawn point left, with no armour and no heli. 3 minutes later it was game over.san4 wrote:

I got no points during the time I was "dealing" with the heli, but it gave my team the chance to take serious advantage of the clear skies. I must admit I can't take all the credit though. The pilot was dumb for stating so long, and the gunner couldn't hit a barn door from 5 feet away.
You are right in saying it is usually a guaranteed death to take small arms against a heli, but sometimes you can earn a great benefit for the team.

When I'm in attack chopper, I notice some little fire coming at me and I easily spot it, then I figure out it's support shooting me. What's the point with that? They want to get killed? Because when shooting enemy chopper you could aswell put some big flashing neonlight sign "I'm over here kill me!" (Click my MC Hammer...)
Because the attack chopper is a bigger target, and they can increase their accuracy with the gun?
Seriously, any amount of damage or harassment to an enemy chopper is better than none. Afterall, if people weren't shooting at choppers, who'd be killing them? I do agree with you that the LMGs are weak against the attack choppers, but if there is some chance that more than one person is damaging the chopper, it increases the chance that the chopper is destroyed (or more likely, the chopper pilots will tuck tail and run).
EDIT: Punctuation.

I'll shoot at a chopper if it is almost on fire or especially if it is about to run into a tree/pole/building because you do get credit for the kill.
