TS2 or Ventrillo?

I don't currently play in a clan (am looking, see my other topic!!), but would really like to get more involved with my teams. I know a lot of people use either software, but what is more common, least laggy, and most compatible with BF2?

PS at the mo I only have 1Gb DDR, until next payday

well you could download ventrilomix 0.5 (at least that's the version I have). That way you can choose between 3 ventrilo versions (2.2-2.4) AND TS2.

Which one to choose? depends on the server you play on. The bf2s eu server uses teamspeak2, but me and my clan use ventrilo as we got a free server there. (the ping is not really great but we hear eachother )

I think that TS2 is a more used and better than ventrilo, but I suggest you read the rules of the server you play on, sometimes they give you a teamspeak server!

So should I just get both? Would save a lot of hassle...

Also, how does BF2 take to ALT + TAB to load the TS/Vent IP's when its loading the map, or should I wait until the level is loaded?

wait until it's loaded. at least that's what I have to do. Bf2 on my system doesn't handle the alt+tab routine very well. It halts loading and then resumes when you maximize it again.

If im not mistaken i believe ventrilo cost money and ts is free. Ventrilo cost money but i heard you have more options and it sounds more clearer then ts but i always used ts and i gotta say "TS FTW" or " TS For The Low budget'ers".

Simple, straight forward to connect.
And damn easy to start a server with.
Install, forward relative ports where applicable, away you go.

TS has this silly webadmin console thing that just didnt want to function with my computer or my mates.
Id rather a console output on my screen to see whats going on then have to login to a web interface all the time.

I have never used Vent. so TS works for me. I am sure there are folks out here that remember ROGER WILCO. Anything is better than that.

Teamspeak. My friends and I use it. I set up a server on my pc because random servers we picked kept closing. My only problem came when I tried to get it to go through my router. I found a website that claimed to show how to set it up. But it didn't work and I had to set up a virtual server on my router.

I use both but the sound quality is better on ts2 ( it's my opinion ). Almost all clan are using ts2... when i go on a bf2 clan server I only see TS2 public server. So i think TS2 is better but ventrilo is ok too!

I think the quality on Vent is far better then TS2. But I use ts2, for one reason. Latencey. With vent the lowest latency settings i can get is half a second, but i still find it to be too slow. Maybe i am mising something.

Anywho I use Ventrilo, Ive never touched TS and don't plan on it

Vent has better codecs.

Other then that, it's just differences in interface.

Both are fine and won't cause you any troubles.

Are there any latency settings in TS2 (I can't find 'em) or does latency time depend only on the TS-server?

I use TS but me and my pals are having problems with latency issues.
(Sometimes up to 4 seconds even though the server is based in Sweden)

ts ftw!!

make sure you select the bottom codec (25.9Kbit) in ts everytime you open up ts.
