Oh yea, and paper work is your life and military desk monkies are idiots. Ride them like a horse on every detail!!!!
if you looking for adventure and to work with the greatest individuals our nation has to offer, make your MOS 11B. anything else, is uncivilized (right guard commercial)Asianwaste wrote:
Look I'm coming up short so I'll give you a heads up so there's no surprises when the bull shit happens. Cuz it will.
If you are looking for an adventure, chances are it's not going to happen, or if it does happen, it's not all that it's cracked up to be. Expect your supervisors to be as dumb as you are because no one knows WTF they are doing, yet some how the job gets done. If you are the type to overthink things, get rid of that bad habit. Military has a "do it and do it now" kind of work ethic. If something is wrong, they will over kill it to the point of nonexistence. IE say you walk through a gate piss ass drunk. Well now obviously you must have an alcohol problem, so now you have to go to DAPA (AA equivalent). Or some guys like to be jack asses off base so now everyone in your command is no longer allowed off base for the next few months. Because the team is only as fast as the slowest person or some stupid shit like that. So in the short term it seems like a lot of bullshit, but when you look back you will learn everything somehow makes sense. It'll piss you off a lot, but it did me a lot of good. Good luck and don't be a jack ass.

Not doing something because of family pressure (or pressure from anyone else) is NOT the way to go through life. Trust me - been there, done that, got nothing to show for it! If you want to go Navy - GO NAVY. Actually, you might try Coast Guard also. The guys I know there say it's actually tougher than The Navy and there's alot more "action" going on.
Anyway - best of luck & stay true.

Navy is getting a lot of funds cut. You'll find it hard to gain rank with the war going on. The war needs soldiers not sailors. Coast Guard is a good idea too. Stay close at home and get to raid drug boats (depending on your job that is.) If ol Kim Jong blows up Korea or Japan, maybe you should go Navy then. If you change your mind and still want to go Navy, then go for the Master at Arms rating. On the surface it's the equivalent to an MP. However Master at Arms are now deploying to GTMO (BLAH don't go there it's a "shit" job) and the middle east. There's the Mobile Security Force (MSF) who are the MAA elites. They get forward deployed. MAA's are also taking the Riverines (river boat patrols) in the middle easter theater. So you get to live your Apocalypse Now fantasies/re-enactments)Kaosdad008 wrote:

what kind of impact do you want to have in this military?
as an ex navy seabee I think you are making an excellent choice.
there are a lot of options to go for and if you want education there are openings while in and of course the va after.
it won't be easy, you will face decipline you never face in the civilian world but you come out a better person. I am not cheering you on to go kill people but when your country calls.
good luck and keep in touch on the bf2s board so we know how you are doing.

dont do it for money man. trust me, the bonus money is nice but in the long wrong dont let that be the deciding factorBrizzzer wrote:
And you actually have karma?
Anyways, I was able to talk to a recruter the other day and was told that I could get between $1,000 and $30,000 sign on bonus. But, of cours you won't see a penny of that till after basic. lol
Sign on bonuses are a rip off. Should you wish to stay longer reinlistment bonuses can range up to and over $10,000. You'd have to be a guy with a master's degree in radiology or something and still wish to be an enlisted in order to see a $30,000 sign on bonus let alone something over $5,000.

Guys guys guys, I understand what i need to do and I am working on it. I am not doing it for the money, but its always nice to have. Hell when I join I plan on selling everything but my car and travel around.
That is correct sir, you gotta have a degree to get some big bucks up front. I'm in it for the opportunity to have a paying music gigAsianwaste wrote:

Absolutely, the CG boot camp is actually the second hardest boot camp (averagely). Marines is the hardest physically, with CG second; but CG is the hardest most involved academically. There is at least 4 - 5 hours of classroom work everyday.Kaosdad008 wrote:

However you must be in shape to be admitted. You WILL get into better shape there, but you must meet weight standards.
As for his second point, every other service trains everyday for something they may get to do, We Everyday do what we train for every single day.
Look for "The Guardian" in theaters this summer.

a whole lot of training going on in Iraq and afghansitan....yeah, not really. cmon now man. Im not bashing you but maybe you should think about what you write and who might read it. I find that attitude offensive and unrealistic, but I dont like trashing other services.......even if they arent a part of the Department of Defense. sorry.

GS,
Trust me man, I know you're out there and THANKS (not even gonna belittle it with a karma point). Don't forget we have boys over there also. Please don't take the idea of us doing our job everyday offensively; just a left over idea of a time long past. The gist of the idea nowadays would be; We only have 40,000 members (less the the NYPD) so every single one of us must contribute to protecting the 12,000 miles of coastline. I'm NOT AT ALL one to bash any other branch.
PS we are only DOD when an Article of War has been signed, so today we are still DHS.
