Go have a look at www. overclockers.co.uk for a good selection of cards, the ATI x1800xt can be had for £165 which is good value, or there's a x1900xt 512Mb card for £265. The Nvidia 7900's have a reputation for failing  so I'd avoid those for the moment (shame as I'm using a 7800gtx which has been trouble free for nearly a year now) ;  the 7950 seem good but pricey.

i like my geforce 7800gt 256mb (AGP, btw), i think that would be the best card but ONLY if you have agp.

now if you have pci-express x16 slot, anything up would run it fine, if not better.

the 7800GT by definition is pcie.  You have the 7800GS if it is AGP.

I DO have a 7800GT and it is quite nice. It is already outdated though and hard to come by, the 7900 series pwns from what I've seen.

ask 10 people and you'll get 15 different answers.  Which is better, AMD or Intel?  Which is better, Dodge or Chevy?  At the end of the day, it is an opinion.  That being said, nVidia FTW.  ;-)

The nVidia 7950GX2 is as good as it gets right now.  Its SLi on one card.  You don't even need an SLi compatable mobo either!  Expensive though.  For the budget I would recommend a 7600GT.  Very good price/performance ratio.

Okay, so if it is an Nvidia GS it's (suppose to be) AGP and if GT it's PCIe?  Or does that only apply to certain cards?

My vid card is an Nvidia 6800 GS 256...PCIe (not plugged into an AGP slot).  BTW...that suckers HUGE!

6600 GT PCI-E is byfar bang for the buck. I have it and i play on med settings with 2x AA. its a really good card. For for maximum experience turn of lighting and shadows. Everything still looks awesome and you have an ave fps of 40

Seconded. This card would indeed be the best for BF2.

As a side note, bear in mind you can only make the best use of the 7950 GX2 if the games you're playing have an SLI 'profile' (e.g. an option in the graphics settings to take advantage of SLI cards).

Need For Speed: Most Wanted, for example, doesn't have an SLI profile - and that card performs miserably in benchmarking tests on it. Same with similar games without an SLI option. Of course, games like F.E.A.R do have SLI options, and it screams along.

Just a thought.

If you want a dual card solution i've heard nvidias is the best. I originally bought a 7900GTX (with the intention of getting a second one when they lowered in price), however because of hardware problems with the 7900 line I returned it and went with a X1900XTX.

Nvidia drivers bitch slap ATI's, this is coming from someone who has used BOTH cards and currently uses an ATI card.

7600gt runs everything on high if you have enough RAM for textures, if you have a budget this is the card for you.

And from some one that has also used both cards, you are spreading typical FUD.
