What do you actually think about a helicopter only squad Rick_O_Shea678, me and my mate are allways in the chopper and follow orders, sorta..

not the complicated stuff like mining and stuff, and no capping flags either but we defend them alot

The OP had enough sense to see the situation and make a good call.  Since it appears he was out of the jet in a very reasonable amount of time, most admins on servers with no flying commander rules would let it go.  Provided he didn't do it again that round.

Commanders have problems with squads not following orders on all maps, but more so on Wake.

I hate giving orders that are accepted then not carried out.  If you accept an order I expect you to follow it as soon as reasonably possible.  I.E.  Repairs needed here.  You may not have an Eng in your squad but as soon as one of you dies, I expect you to respawn at the appropriate place as an Eng and repair.

I know this is more difficult on Wake if we are Chineese and have lost the airfield.  It happens rarely when I command though.

LOL @ ValentijnR, $16M jet.  It's the cost of war, I promise to do up a budget later.  I also drop a lot of supply boxes, and guys are always taking ammo & stuff out of them, quartermaster hates me.
First we get victory, then I talk to accountants.

LMFAO@[n00b]Tyler, you kiss your mother with that mouth?  And then when challenged, he runs behind someone else's skirt.  If you don't like the post, read another.  If you have nothing to contribute, move on without saying anything, no one will notice.

@elmo1337, a dedicated helo squad is very cool, no problem with that.  You can lock squad too, in that case.
And you are doing it the right way, use attack chopper to kill, and defend our flags.  As for mining, etc, a good CO will not just spam to all squads "repairs needed here" or "demolitions needed here", he'll send it to only one or two squads, based on proximity and kits in the squad, and you shouldn't hear any of that in your helo.

A really good pilot/team CAN hover to repair, or drop down to C4 then take off again.  But I prefer they don't because (1) they are wasting a valuable weapon, the helo, for a few moments there, when they could be killin', and (2) if you bail out to wrench or lay C4 and enemy shoots you and steals the chopper, I will be mighty pissed as CO!

I think I only have a problem with three types of squads (in addition to those who don't follow orders!):
1) Locked squad with only one guy in it.
2) Squad leader in a jet.  Rotate out, part of being SL is being a spawn point.
3) squads where SL is AFK, not spawning in this game.  Join another squad, mates!

Yeah, but I usually commanding as spec ops to get time in that kit, so you want me to fix my assets with c4?  Good idea.

Rick, I agree with you about the squads with one exception.

I don't mind a flying squad leader if the the squad is composed of only flying squad members.

I agree with you about it being a waste if the SL is flying and everyone else in the squad is on the ground.

However, a flying sl does give you the commander an advantage in two respects.  First the jets with their bombs can be considered mobile arterially that you can call upon to drop bombs to defend flags that no one else can get to in time.  Second the bombs can work just as good as C4 to blow up enemy commander assets on certain maps such the American assets on Clean Sweep where a spec ops guy or guys would have trouble getting to destroy.

Don't choose a kit that you 'need to rack up time in', choose one that's suitable for the task at hand.

Great points, DSRTurtle, and I agree.
If it's a full squad and the SL is in a single-seater and spends the whole round in air, the other five guys can end up less effective because they only have flags for spawns.  They often end up like ducklings without a mother, scattered all over the map and not working together.  Esp a problem at maps like Wake & Dalian, or 64-man Dragon Valley for USA, where if team gets their ears pinned back, it's a long dangerous road to capping a second flag.
But it can work if it's a small squad, and you are giving them orders/spotting armor for them, absolutely.  Two man squad, both in planes, chatting to each other = heaven for a CO.  Or if SL is in F15/Su34, someone spawns on him to use the underappreciated laser-guided missiles...beautiful.  Small, pilot-centric squads at Clean Swepper, Kubra, and Daqing can = teh win.

Teamspeak or VOIP is more effective when wanting the jets to hit an area.  I should have mentioned that in one of the earlier posts.

That way you don't have that stupid line clutttering up your command screen for the rest of the round.

you fucked up a 16 million dollar jet and 2 300.000 dollar bombs to kill 2 guys and fix a 1 million dollar arty?

ok
Sorry, but the Jet is 60 million dollars, not sure on the bombs, but they look like Mk83 or something, so they wont be all that expensive... and no way that cheapo Arty thing is 1 million bucks
