my guess is... the resolution is too high for it.
you can change it a few ways.. easiest way in my mind is to use old monitor, go to settings and lower resolution.
then go to new monitor... (it seems my crt (fat ass monitor) can display a much higher rez than my lcd (thin monitor))

if the resolution is less than 1024x768 or somethin already... then that isnt the problem cuz i dont know a monitor that doesnt support that size... i would assume 1280x1024 would be fine too... anything higher than that, then thats probably your problem.

if thats not it... then tell me

Assuming that your new monitor is an LCD. Have you considered the fact that LCD's cant handle refreshrates above 60Hz ? Try to alter your video settings in the con file manually if you can't get into the game. it might help. If not, uninstall, re-install, and default settigns should be applied (I believe 800x600@60Hz).

I am having the same problem. havn't been able to exact any revenge on a tker in two days now. I am seeing alot of these types of posts the last few days. there seems to be many different reasons for this problem, and no real solution. I have in the last two days,:

Uninstalled and reinstalled the game and its numerous patches THREE times.

Defraged my 300 gb (almost full BTW) Hard drive twice.

Conferred with techies in various forums with no success.

Cleaned my disks

Installed all the latest drivers of my video card, sound card, and Mo board.

Removed, renamed, and reset the "my documents" BF2 folder and its contents.

installed the game without any patches and attempted to play single player. no success there.

There is one thing i have noticed that i found rather odd. Everytime i uninstalled and then reinstalled the game, whenever i went to the control panel to the add or remove programs, the icon that shows BF2 would not be a BF2 icon but something completely different. the last time it was the icon that is for VOIP in the EA/program files/ Bf2 folder.

at any rate, i am done trying to figure this out.

I want my friggen money back.

I have also Cussed till i created new ways to cuss. threw my disk across the room, yelled at my kids for asking me simple questions like " daddy, can i go outside?" and basically am going through BF2 withdrawels.

I figure one or two more days and i will be glad i didn't put any more effort into restoring this friggen peice of shite joke of a "game". that i LOVE WITH ALL MY HEART.

try to set the game to your native resolution.

If you want to run Battlefield 2 in a resolution that does not appear in the game's video settings, but you know is supported by your monitor, you can modify the game shortcut and give it specific parameters.

First, you will need to determine which resolutions your monitor supports.

   1.
      Right-click your desktop background.
   2.
      Select Properties.
   3.
      Click on the Settings tab.
   4.
Move the Screen Resolution slider bar back and forth.  This will show you the resolutions your monitor supports.

Once you have a resolution in mind, it's time to edit your Battlefield 2 shortcut.

   1.
If you don't already have a shortcut on your desktop, or if you want to create a duplicate, go to the Start menu and find your Battlefield 2 icon.  This will usually be found in All Programs > EA GAMES > Battlefield 2 (or the corresponding expansion/pack folder).
   2.
Right-click the Play Battlefield 2 (or the corresponding expansion/pack) icon and choose Send To, and then Desktop.
   3.
This places a copy of that shortcut on your desktop.
   4.
Right-click the shortcut and choose Properties.
   5.
Edit the target line to match this format (note that the actual file location may be different but everything after the second quotation mark must be exactly as shown):
          *
            For Battlefield 2: "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx [h] +szy [v]
          *
            For Special Forces: "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/xpack +ignoreAsserts 1 +szx [h] +szy [v]
          *
In these tags, [h] is the horizontal measurement and [v] is the vertical measurement.  If you wanted to run Special Forces  in 1920 x 1200, your Target line would look like this:
                o
                  "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/xpack +ignoreAsserts 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200
   6.
      Press Apply, then OK.

Adding these tags to the end of the target line will tell Battlefield 2 what resolution to start in.  Remember, each tag in a target line must be separated by a space and must occur after the second quotation mark (").

Note: You must use this modified shortcut to start the game or your modified resolution will not be triggered.
