So after about a week of flying in empty servers, practicing setting up TV shots and stuff I decided to try my hand at solo choppering on a 64 player server w/ Dalian Plant .

I have to say I had the time of my life. It was rad being able to line up the targets myself, the way I liked it. I'll have to do it more often.

Thank you everyone in these forums who has left tips and hints on chopper flying. I'm still a relative newb to it all, but i'm getting better. My goal is to get my heli ratio up above 3 .

Well if you fly by yourself, and then shoot the TV GUIDED MISSILE is also called seat switching to avoid an AA LOCK !!!

Just FYI !

The thing about solo-choppering for me at least, is that it's fun as all hell. I think I could've gotten more points by  jacking the j-10, or taken the armor out for a roll, but it wouldn't have been as fun for me.

That, and it's always fun to take out a fully crewed chopper and listen to the whining ensue -_-

Not always.

I really have no idea what conditions have to be met for an AA missle to hit you, though.  It seems a bit random at times.

Regardless, it's still advantageous to switch to the gunner's seat as it still does improve your ability avoid AA missles.  At least, more so than if you didn't have the ability to switch to the gunner's seat altogether.

Yeah, I fly solo most of the time. But once in a great while I come across a gunner that actually shoots, and can hit targets. A good pilot / gunner combo can be devistating. Far more than a solo pilot. Im still looking for a dedicated gunner with some skills.

After flying chopper for almost 400 hours I like having a good gunner better than flying solo. But I use to like flying solo better. I think over all people are getting better at flying / gunning.

Even back in 1.2 times it was real hard to find a good co-pilot. More so, than now.

I want to fly solo, it's fun, but if someone else hops in my chopper I don't get mad, I fly for em and do what I can to not get killed because they missed the Tungska.

Other then that, flying solo is a great way to practice. You choose where to go, and you make the shots.

Congrats, and keep flyin.

I'm not really gonna bitch about it, you guys do whatever you like (it's your game) but as someone who really likes gunner seat, I have to say it sucks to see a pilot fly off alone just cause he wants to have it all to himself.  Luckily, it takes awhile for the chopper to lift off so there is usually time to jump in.

I'm kinda with ShotYourSix.  Your more use to your team if you have a good gunner in the seat with you.  I choose gunning over flying most of the time but it's hard to have a pilot that wants to help.   Most pilots that I have flown with wants to take all the glory and not let the gunner mow down the foot soldiers.

It was a 64 player Dalian server, and it was one of those situations where nobody was spawning on the carrier anymore so there was no point in waiting around. I'm not the type that will take off in the beginning of a round and solo, w/ a gunner a chopper is devastating against infantry as well as armor and such.

I just had fun soloing my little butt off. ^_^ Should the situation arise where I can do it again w/out being a jerk and taking off w/ 6 ground pounders left behind clammoring for the gunner's seat, I'd look forward to it.

As much as I have seen some great solo pilots, people that can both pilot and gun (such as freezingdonkeyboy.... he's good at it), that NEVER EVER EVER beats a good pilot AND a good gunner in there at the same time. It's hard to get that good combo setup, but as far as overall devestation to the enemy, the pilot gunner combo beats a solo pilot every time (not in direct chopper to chopper combat, thats a different story)

If you keep switching seats the AA will get confused and miss 70% of the time.

But the feeling of a good team winning is nothing compared to the selfish pride you get when you pwn solo-ing.

I won't argue w/ that. It's more effective against infantry, you have 2 sets of eyes spotting things.

I'm not trying to state the effectivness or how 0mG L33t soloing is, or how good I am at it. I'm just saying it's damn fun.

fun, yeah, ive done it once or twice. I fly all the time, rarely gun, so if i gunned more i may be effective at it.... id guestimate that 97-98% of my chopper time is piloting. not enough time gunning to be effective as a solo pilot.

I only solo-pilot if nobody is around to join me. I ALWAYS have a squad open when I am in a chopper and mostly invite others to join me. Even still, I run around infantry heavy flags and yell "Mount up!".

But.. It is still fun. GREAT fun. I'm still at a loss on how to use the MG solo, but TV'ing is getting easier. I got my first solo kills a few days ago on Daqing, when I TV'd the Chinese Attack Helicopter. Had to say, it felt great knowing that I could take down a pilot and a gunner by my lonesome.

I am almost an exclusive pilot, but I have to gun now-and-again to keep my K/D over 1 with them. (I get killed alot screwing around with tranport choppers and piloting a chopper I rarely seem to break even.)

I also like solo choppering - great training to shooting TV rockets.
But there's nothing better than a good gunner AND a good pilot - they will always be better than a single guy.
