Well today I wanted to see what my card was made of. So I went into single player and jacked everything up to high. It was a little studdery but I got to see what this game can look like.

So I go to change them and the bottom half of the screen goes black. I'm like oh shit. I exit out restart change all my settings back to low. (I am playing SF, I can't play SF on med settings. But I can with vanilla.) Regardless things are looking good and I figure that it is just a fluke.

So I get into the game fine and notice that maybe every 5-10 seconds I lag a little. But my ping stays under 50 and never gets any higher then 70. I tried 5 different servers and the same thing happens.

So my question is. Could my video card be damaged just enough so the game studiers every few seconds? And also could turning them up high have caused it? Oh and the card is 6600 backed up with 1 gig of ram.

How would I go about that. And in simpler terms, how does that affect anything?

I'm not sure exactly where the cache is (and I don't have BF2 on this compy) but just dig around your bf2 install a while and you may stumble across it.  That being said, with most computer components, they either work or don't.  Unless you overclocked your card or did some other higher level mod, there's really veeery little chance you hurt anything.

Are any other games messing up?  If not, then the worst case scenerio is you remove and re-install the game.

No overclock.

Re-install again. This is around the 10th time, I really am getting sick of this game.

Ok so I clear the Logo cache? Or is it in there?

I believe its in "My Documents\Battlefield 2\cache"

delete whats in there, or even better, move it somewhere else incase I'm wrong, been a while since I had to nuke mine.

I did a full re-install and made punkbuster sleep 500.

I am still having the same issue. Anything else?

Im not sure about this, but I think a reinstall only deletes the folder in program files, so everything in the My documents folder is still there.  Since the cache is in the my documents folder, you may still have the shaders which could be causing the problem.

Try what this poster said...

You can delete anything in My documents\battlefield 2.  A lot of people end up deleting the folder claiming it will fix some bugs.
Battlefield 2 just generates a new folder.

Slow down loading a map a small amount, that's about it as far as I know.

No. How would I go about that?

If something was over heating wouldn't it take a little bit longer then just entering the game?

You said you had a 6600, so go to the Nvidia Control Panel and then to 3d Settings and then Monitor Temperature Levels. What is the Core at? Ambient?

Ok I have looked everywhere and cannot find 3d settings. Maybe I'm not in the control panel?

I have done everything. But it can't be the video card.

When I go into single player and Increase the settings it runs flawlessly. So it only happens in multi. What could possibly causing this? And why did it just pop out of no-where?

The two differences between single player and multi are (1) more memory is needed and (2) communication resources are used.

Problems with Memory.
* Most say that BF2 runs best on 1.5 gig or more, mostly well on 1 gig, and sluggishly on 1/2 gig  (this is probably not your problem because you seem to indicate that it has worked flawlessly in the past).

Problems with Communication
* If you are using a wireless network to access the internet, you may experience lag if the throughput is low.  Changing room configurations, interference, etc. might be the cause.
* Spyware can sometimes block or clog your access to the internet and to BF2 servers.  (use anti-spyware software to check for presence).
* Anti-virus software, depending upon configuration, can cause major slowdowns in internet communication.  A recent update might be the cause (to check, turn off anti-virus and see if problem persists).
* Your service provider may have a temporary degradation in your throughput that is causing slowdowns in communication.  (There are some sites on the internet that offer "speed tests".  See if your speed to these sites is comparible to the connection speed that you have to your ISP).
